You could say that the design of this spinner started decades ago, but that's only party true. We acquired the antique punch shape from a historic mint that was closing down. It had been sitting in our shop for years, so we pulled it out to see what we could do with it. Our first spinner attempt with the design was to lightly stamp the US impression onto a steel rectangle. We dimpled the metal (instead of adding a ball) in the exact center to create the spin point. A physics professor challenged us to figure out how to make it balance and spin if we cut it out of the bar altogether. So we got thicker bars of metal, punched out the US shape and figured out where the center of the weight of the US is - Lebanon, Kansas! We mount an indestructible silicone nitride ball there as the spin point. We've reached max spin times of 5 minutes, but 4 minutes is more common with a good surface. Wind resistance is the main factor for reduced spin times compared to our other spinners. We wear them down a bit before mounting the ball so the edges aren't rough and so wear won't show as much. The edges of the states feel nice in the hand and we've had people get them as worry coins.
