I had a similar experience with a SCL4. Shure replaced it 4 times because of the cable drying out and cracking. By the last time, I had become so paranoid about the cracking that I couldn't enjoy them anymore, so as soon as the replacement arrived I put them up on ebay. Right now I own the SE535 and enjoy them quite a bit. I know what I've read but still can't imagine how the 846 can improve on the exemplary 535.
The clear-pass filters and highs are insane compared to the SE-535's. I tried them side-by-side and was very impressed they could be better than the SE-535's!
