They SHURE Sound Great
This is the SHURE 1840 headphone, one of the best open audiophile reference headphones available. When it comes to sound signature, the SRH1840 is pure neutrality. Everything is even, balanced, and presented with exceptional detail. The sound is well articulated with tight bass and exact highs. All these factors make the SRH1840 the ideal headphone for classical, jazz, and electronic music (usually mastered with a bass emphasis that gets blown out of proportion by most headphones). All in, an excellent sounding headphone that we'll be using as a reference from now on.
High Quality, Light Weight
From material choices to minimalist design, SHURE did a remarkably job designing the 1840. The frame is lightweight anodized metal subtly embossed with a SHURE logo on each side. The cushioned headband is split into two smaller bands to reduce weight and dissipate force. Black metal honeycomb grills show the headphone driver unit and other internal structures. As far as comfort goes, we can wear for hours without discomfort. The headphone itself is fairly light (10oz) for its size and the clamping pressure of headband is just right. SHURE set out to make a streamlined, premium reference headphone, they succeeded with the SRH1840.
Durable and Modular
The SRH1840 is one of the most immediately durable headphones we've tested. Everything is solid, no wobbling parts, nothing sliding where it shouldn't, all solid and functional. The cable is detachable but it stays locked in the headphone without issue.. The quality of the stock cable appears to be about average, but on the plus side, SHURE generously includes a spare cable. SHURE also opted to use a coax standard connector so DIY cable upgrades are easy. The comfy and easily removable earpads are quite similar to those found on the Sennheiser HD650 and SHURE includes an extra set of those as well. Finally, SHURE also includes a zip closure hard case to keep your SRH1840 safe while not in use.
