Is it included the footprint? Or can I add footprint in the drop?

The reviews we read regarding storm testing were excellent, without the user getting wet. I'd be hesitant to use in the shoulder seasons, but shall reserve full judgement until we try it out.

Is the 1 lb difference with the extra cost? Also, is there a difference in durability between the regular version vs the floor? It's going to be my first time backpacking and I really like the way this tent is designed. I plan to use it primarily in California/Oregon year round for camping as well.

Very good advice. Though I might add that winter conditions in parts of California & Oregon are far milder than spring & fall in Minnesota (as someone who has lived on the west coast & Minnesota). So the whole season advice on tents is very confusing for beginners. They ought to say, "not designed for snow loads."

CardamomteaRight. Winter camping could be in a sheltered cove along the Oregon coast line, or ski-trekking over 9,000 in the Sierra

Seems like a decent drop. Was gonna get the MSR Elixer 2, but this seems like a better deal.

Any idea how it is in the rain? Cold temps?

Roae22I did look at some reviews and a few said that if it's cold outside, it will be cold in the tent. I think since the fly doesn't go all the way to the ground, it funnels air into the mesh area under the fly. None of the reviews complained about getting wet. This seems like a great tent for warm backpacking, but not for cold and really wet weather.

JohnfromMOThis sent me on a deeper dive and it seems like the earlier iterations of these designs had a serious problem with condensation, so the shorter integrated fly would seem to address that problem (but at the expense of warmth: the constant trade-off, I guess).

Not really crazy about the Single layer in the footbox section. Looks like it would be a great tent if you don't use it in the rain.

mahpSame, I have a tarptent cloudburst 3 and I want something more compact when I'm solo hiking versus going with my fiance and the dogs, but it's hard to beat 3lbs for a 3 person tent.

epsilon748I bought the Nemo Hornet 2P this spring as a solo shelter for me/ me+2 dogs. Technically it fits two people, but not comfortably. It weighs 2lb (tent, fly, poles) on my scale. I paid $300? I looked at Zpacks Duplex as well, but at twice the price I couldn't justify the cost for ounces saved.
However, you did say, "compact," so maybe it's tent LxW, not weight that concerns you the most... anyhow, just some thoughts :-)
