It's a Neat Concept But Has Lots of Room for Improvement
First, I think it's too expensive for what you actually get. The survival belt by itself from slidebelts.com is around $65, that means the buckle is about $85 (at the time of this review). I was waiting for a deal like I got on Drop.com to come by but honestly would liked to have seen it even a bit cheaper. Please let me explain why I'm disappointed (History lesson to follow, review below that): I've been following the Slidebelt Survival belt since it was first on Kickstarter (2014 iirc). There were even several models they were introducing, each with different functions and utility, once their stretch goals were reached. The Survival Belt, back then, was just a basic firestarter and composite belt with a metal belt buckle and backers could get it for $79. Yes it doesn't have a flashlight or a knife but still ~$80 to $150 is a huge jump for those two things and going retail. Anyway... Another model called "The Hunter" was a nice mix of features without being too expensive (one stretch goal model The Explorer, iirc, was to have a GPS locator chip built into it but that goal was never met).... So the Hunter concept had a firestarter and a "multi-tool" in its design that was almost a perfect idea. Its stretch goal was reached but afaik it was never released, much to the disappointment of the backers. This was the model I really wanted to get and it was going for $95 for backers. So then the campaign finished, being funded at roughly $200,000 of a $60,000 goal and the finished product started trickling out much later than originally intended but the only model going out was the survival model and it was now made of a much thicker nylon plastic instead of metal.. I'm glad I didn't get that version. Fast forward a few years later and the Survival Belt 2.0 was released. It now was a much more robust feeling buckle incorporating a metal face and handle with a nylon base buckle design, a flip out knife blade/bottle opener and a LED light attached to the firestarter. Much closer to the Hunter model I wanted years ago. But at $150 there was no way I could justify that for a belt that would be put through hell. Review: I do like how comfortable the belt is. I love the sturdiness of the belt, I like the sliding ratcheting buckle, I like having a firestarter and LED emergency light and even like the idea of the knife/bottle-opener. BUT you have to unbuckle the belt to use the knife/bottle-opener. Which is then is still awkward to use as you have to either flip the knife out to access the bottle-opener (properly facing downwards), thing is it's a VERY sharp knife with the blade edge facing you and if you've had a few drinks I don't see that going well, OR you try to twist the sturdy belt so that the buckle is facing the opposite side giving you have access to the bottle-opener facing downwards (you know, so the beer doesn't spill all over you by being opened upside-down?)... Your best bet is to remove the belt altogether and use it as a knife or bottle-opener while you're sitting down and don't need it to hold up your pants...... An easier to access or removable blade and bottle-opener would be a great idea for a future design. Another quibble I have is that the LED is powered by 4 teensie tiny LR621 button cell batteries (which are shrink-wrapped into a bundle for some reason) that once they die are somewhat expensive and hard to find outside of the internet. I would love it if they had gone with a 1xAAA LED light that clipped in or slid along the whole of the underside (or top) of the buckle which would be very doable without taking up much more room. Admittedly I have not used the firestarter yet but, from the ones I have used and know how they work, it could definitely be bigger as well. Overall I like the concept and I like the belt. But it could be cheaper and definitely has room for improvement.

The Ferrocerium/light is very difficult to pull out, and the knife is not detachable so the belt has to be taken off to use efficiently the knife.. the material is strong so this is perfect. So good belt for survival (a bit expensive) but not for emergency or quick use.
