Product Description
An easy way to upgrade your audio experience when you’re on the go, the SMSL Ivy DAC/amp is inexpensive, lightweight, and really small—so small, you can hold it on the tip of your finger. Equipped with a PCM2704 DAC chip, it supports sampling rates up to 16 bit/48 kHz, and connects to your Android smartphone’s Micro-USB input to improve output power Read More
Device does not make solid connection. Has major electrical noise issues that make it sound like a dial-up connection. It is noisy when nothing is playing, because the noise floor on the amp is very high. The device seems likely to break during normal use, because the plugins are not lined up, so plugging in headphones puts stress on the USB connector, and USB connectors are well known to wear out quickly.
I wish to return this device and have my money back. This product was very underwhelming and does not meet even the basic criteria for a product of its type.
It lasted a grand total of two uses and the usb jack is loose and no longer makes a connection. I never took it out of the case it came in apart from those two uses. Can't say I'm a fan.

Received, got excited, tested, MicroUSB connection became finicky after two plugin and unplug cycles. After 3, it barely made connection, and needed constant slight pressure to maintain connection with the phone.
Another cycle and it was bricked.
This design just doesn't work.
Any device that sticks out from a mobile phone needs either a much better connector (and additional bracing/support) or to be attached with a flexible cable.
The Ivy sounded amazing for the size and price while it lasted, so I've got nothing against SMSL's tech... But the ivy's design just sucks.
Strongly considering the SMSL Idol, since it connects via a flexible cable, which I think/hope will prevent some of the fragility.
Very disappointed with this. At first, it worked OK, but no discernible difference from the straight headphone out on my LG G4 phone. After only a couple of days it no longer worked at all. So while cheap, this is simply a piece of junk. Avoid. I hope I can return and get my money back, as it doesn't work at all as advertised. Very disappointed.

BradicalSame phone, similar experience. Sounded better than the internal G4 hardware to my (admittedly untrained) ear, but didn't last a day.

I got mine today. No box or instructions. I plugged it into my note 5 and nothing happens. No lights. I tried my galaxy tab s2 and nothing happens. What now? Also, the usb jack is hard to remove after insertion.
So far I am disappointed in this drop. The DAC/Amp fell apart the first time I had to remove it from my Note 5; I removed it because the sound quality was subpar compared to the phone itself. Not a quality item like I would expect from Massdrop.
Day 2: totally fell apart. Requested a refund from customer service.
Odd, a lot of people have said that the DAC/Amp had issues with sound and with built quality. I have a Moto X Pure and am using Sennheiser HD598s with them. So far, the DAC/Amp is really small so I've been handling it slowly and carefully, I think a reason why it breaks on people is because the micro-USB and the headphone jack are on opposite corners so pulling out the headphone quickly could deteriorate the product...which is actually bad on SMSL's part but mine is doing fine. As far as audio, I wasn't expecting a huge jump in quality but the little thing does well. Compared to the Moto's normal output, the DAC/Amp is considerably louder, where 70% volume would equal 50% volume on the DAC/Amp. I do feel that the audio itself is sharper since I listen to electro music and the notes seem to end much sharper than before (I tested it on songs I know by heart: Tiny Cities - Flume & Say My Name - ODEZSA). It's fine for what I paid. Posting this to show not everyone had a bad time with the SMSL Ivy.
