Is there any difference in using the Optical IN vs USB IN? Can you freely switch between the two input with the remote? Also, when you use the RCA cable for speakers, does plugging in the headphone automatically switch the output from the speakers to the headphones?

USB could have a higher bitrate. There is no remote, you can switch input with the joystick. You can switch headphone off or on with the joystick. I think plugging the headphone don't switch the output you have to push right the joystick to choose headphone or speakers.

usb in has higher bitrate over the coaxle. Included usb is decent quality and high volume no background noise even on my m50s

definitely use what works. I cannot - since my optical comes from TV. Also look into changing/upgrading power supply for M6 - that can be the source of said noise. SMSL has LPS device, cough-cough. :)
