? This thing has extremely low output power, what's the point? Should have gone the full balanced route too if you're using 2 chips or am I missing something besides the extra good specs between channel separation? That's not going to be as audibly different as making it balanced.

UzuzuI agree, the ootput power is quite low. I'd rather something more powerful that can drive a variety of headphones, including planars magnetics (of wich I have six).
But if you have or want a to use a separate AMP this could be a perfectly good option. Personally I prefer a single DAC/AMP unite with good power.

RojasTKDI generally prefer separate unless it's a nice all in one, but they dropped the bomb here. It has everything needed to be balanced why wouldn't they go the extra mile? Makes no sense. SMSL products are decent for the most part though and I think they'll really nail it soon with one of their designs.

RojasTKDwhat would you recommend for HD650's. Does not have to be portable, it's going at home next to desktop. Thanks for the help.

HoodrychThat depends on how much you want to spend. It's hard to say I no longer own an HD600 (for now, anyway).
Many people rave about the HD6000/HD560 with a tube AMP. I've never tried a tube AMP but if/when I get and HD600/650 I want to get a tube AMP to try with it.
I currently own an Audio-GD NFB-11 (2014 edition) and find it excellent, very clean. Also own an iFi iDSD Black Label and it also very good. I find the NFB-11 to be a bit cleaner sounding, while the iDSD is a bit more "fun" sounding. Both excellent though. Sometime this year I'd like to get an Audio-GD R2R 11 as an upgrade.
As for cheaper, I'm not sure. Next time there a drop on a Topping D30 (DAC) and A30 (AMP) I want to get one and try. I hear there pretty good for the price.
A Schitt Stack might be an option, but not sure how they pair with the HD650. To compete with my Audio-GD I'd probably have to look at their higher end gear which would start to get pricey.
Aside from that if you need just an AMP I have a Guarge1217 Porject Polaris (solid state) AMP that is think is very good. I'd try one of their other tube AMPs for the HD650.
I also have heard good thins about the Aune X1S, but have no first hand experience.
