Hello everyone. I contacted SMSL about this Dac and asked if it works on Linux. They responded with, "we have not tried linux in the factory. " Does anyone have any experience using this dac on linux and arch linux? THX, Robert
I use it on linux. Works fine. I use deadbeef with plug ins and it does hq flac and dsd.
My issue is the displays on this unit. I've had 3, from two different generations, and all of their screens went bad.
Did you get warranty replacement or repair? What amp did you pair with these? I would like to get this with the P1 linear power supply.
I ended up getting my money back on 1 unit. The other I kept, and it had the smsl power supply designed for it. I don't hear a difference in sound with it connected or not, to be honest. It was going out to a Rotel pre amp, which went out to twin 400w Rotel power amps. The reason for this was upper and lower drivers in each speaker. Rotels have very clean sound, and paired with this dac, was very detailed, but tiring. I ended up buying a Chinese tube pre-amp (sd-cd3) with nice, paired tubes. The sound was way warmer and more enjoyable, for me. I have parts of this display on the dac going out as well, now.
