Building on the success of the widely used SH-8, SMSL is back with an all-new headphone amp that ups the ante in almost every category. It’s called the SH-9, and it’s more powerful and more discreet than its predecessor, without adding extra size. The power and audio upgrades are owed to the onboard THX AAA 888 amplifier, which can output an impressive 6 watts at 16 ohms and 3 watts 32 ohms, with next to no distortion and an excellent signal-to-noise ratio of 137 decibels. But the upgrades don’t end there. The SH-9 also features a larger 1.9-inch screen, an easy-to-operate volume knob, and an accessible gain switch for extra juice when necessary. Remote controllable and stackable with the SU-9 DAC, the SH-9 is one amp that will step-up your setup—no matter which headphones you’re using.
