I don't see pre-amp in the spec but there's a mute button in the remote and possibly a volume control? It would be nice if it could also function as pre-amp connected to active speaker. Seems to be a really good deal for a balance DAC.
d3rrlckYeah, I hope it does have preamp support. SMSL uses that remote for a bunch of products. The thing is that Sabaj, whose relationship to SMSL is weird, uses an identical remote with their logo. And you have to hit "C" on that remote to use it with the Sabaj D4. Which the SU-8 also uses. So if I bought this (I literally just bought an Emotiva XDA-1 for like $135 shipped on eBay last night) it might cause issues for me!
wondroushippoThat's a pretty good deal for Emotiva. I'm looking for a balanced DAC with pre-amp so I can connect it to active speaker in my living room. Initially, I wanted to use the DX7s but that has to stay as my bed side rig. So probably a second-hand market is another option for me. What's so interesting with the SU-8 though is that it resembles quite a bit the SMSL VMV D1 DAC on the outside. The SU-8 looks like a miniature version of the D1 so it would be interesting if we can also peek on the inside. I'm curious to see if this comes with linear PS along with high quality electronic components. But I'll pass on this drop, and will wait for feedback and possibly a measurement review. I heard the 9038 chip-based DAC, so if this gets a positive review I'll be joining on the second drop.
PainiyffAnd the grey box on the bottom right corner says
"Attention"
1. Use 2 AAA batteries for remote control
2. During first time use of SU-8, press the "C" button.
PainiyffI bet $5 this uses the exact same remote codes as the Sabaj D4, which uses an identical remote and similar "you have to hit the C button first" to use it.
