I used mostly dongle dacs and bluetooth receivers. And wow how wonderful the SU-S8s sounds in comparison. Mind you the dongle dacs are more than fine. But the sound improves in every single way on my headphones in comparison - Sennheisers and Hifimans. I can pick out more details and nuances.
I bought this DAC because I needed a DAC to feed a few balanced amps. This DAC quickly became my daily driver. I am running it into an Auris Euterpe, the SH-8s and a Loxjie P20 and all sound great through this. No noticeable quality difference from the XLR vs RCA outputs.
Was looking for a balanced-ready DAC that would give a clean signal to warm sounding amp and this one has been great so far! I'm not super nit-picky about settings and things, I just want a clean sound from hardware that will give me lots of options as far as inputs and outputs and this one is perfect for me. Oh, and the remote was a huge plus!
Wanted a balanced DAC to go with my balanced amp and this fits the bill perfectly. I feed it with an optical signal from my computer to the DAC which goes to a subwoofer which goes to a pair of studio monitors. Everything from music to movies to games sounds crisp and clean with no complaints from me. Unless it breaks I see myself using this for a very long time.
I liked the performance for the price that I paid for this. However, the SMSL C200 does pretty much all this and is also an amp on top of that for just about as cheap.
