A nicely designed DAC with extensive options to best meet your system's available options. The seperate tube amp section to drive your quality headphones is a well thought out design implementation. Tubes have filament heaters which are always on for the tube to work. Tubes will get very warm during normal operation, so keeping the tube portion separate from and positioned above the DAC the heat generated is better managed and should result in a much longer lasting amp. ;^) It still gets quite hot when running the tube section, but not excessive. Now the 6922 tube it ships with is not bad for new Chinese production, but to get the best from the tube amp you need to try some NOS Premium Euro tubes from Amperex, Mullard, and TeleFunken. I have a large stock of these Premium Quality Euro made tubes I will sell for fair prices. I guarantee my tubes and will work with my buyers to ensure they are happy with their purchases! My email is paul1453@gmail.com I also posted some more info in the discussion area. Want to try some Premium tubes in your amp? Do some research and send me an email telling me what you are looking for and what you are willing to pay for it. Maybe we can work out a deal where we are both happy with the results!

ParagliderHi, thanks for your review. I was under the impression that the tubes are only used in the pre amp out section of this dac/tube amp. So, if you use this as a dac or to drive headphones the tube does not play a role. Am I misinformed ?

gkprabhuI don't have a full schematic of this amp, but I would be surprised if it was as you say. If used only as a DAC I think you are correct that the tube is unused. But for the preamp and headphone's outputs I would expect the tube to be used to instill that warmth and pleasant harmonic distortions tubes are known for. Do you have a more detailed design manual for this amp? I'd appreciate a copy if you do. ;^)

ParagliderThanks man for your reply. I don't have a design manual , however if you go to the following link https://www.shenzhenaudio.com/smsl-t1-dac-dsd512-tube-headphone-amplifier-384khz-optical-coaxial-usb-decoder.html There is an answer to a person named Chris. It says that only the pre out uses the tube. Check it out and let me know what you think.

gkprabhuMost answers I saw from the company there were not very helpful. LOL But I got 2 of these from Massdrop for less than what the company is asking for 1! ;^) See the specs for driving different ohm headphones? These are the type of results 1 expects when using a tube to drive headphones of varying loads. I am pretty sure the tube is used in both the preamp and headphone outputs, but not the DAC only output. That's my story am I'm sticking to it! Unless someone has concrete proof I'm wrong. LOL ;^) Did you see my answer to your DV 336 question?

ParagliderHi man, so do you already have the T1 with you ? If so, do you think that it will drive the Monoprice M1060 , Hifiman 400i and the Massdrop Senn 6XX ? I saw your answer to the Dark Voice amp. So if I understand you correctly , unless modded ( like you have done with changing the caps etc...) it is not as good or just as good as the little dot Mk ii ? Thank you for your input. I really appreciate it.

gkprabhuI got 2 of the T1s and 2 of the DV 336s. The T1 can drive up to 300 ohm headphones and I also got 2 of the Massdrop Senn 6XX headphones. I got high end audio Christmas gifts to give to my children this year. LOL My youngest is a gamer and the T1 with an upgraded Mullard 6DJ8 tube is working much better than the DV 336 did for him. He has 250 ohm headphones, but no DAC and the DV 336 was picking up interference from his sound card. My 2nd son has 600 ohm studio headphones and does mixing/sound engineering for some of his rapper friends songs. I bought the DV 336 intending to give it to him. He got a cheap DAC, so I may need to give him a T1 also for all the options it provides! Using the T1 as the DAC and preamp output to drive the DV 336 powering his 600 ohm Headphones may be just the ticket. I've got plenty of the best tubes to roll through the gear to find the absolute best performance possible from this gear. He has a high end computer and software, so some high end audio gear should be a gift he truly appreciates this year. 8^)

gkprabhuCompared to this one: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/massdrop-cth-sdac-dac-amp I'd say I got quite a deal on my T1's. What do you think?

ParagliderYep. I prefer the SMSL to the CTH-SDAC.
