The Snugpak Hammock Under Blanket keeps you warm and protected from the wind and cold that penetrate the bottom of your hammock as you lie suspended during the night. It fits snugly to the outside of most hammocks and uses high-loft fibers as insulation to trap your natural body heat, sheild you from draft, and increase overall comfort Read More
I've honestly never used mine. It seems well made, and should prove to be very warm. It's thicker than the poncho under quilt I made for myself, and that worked well too. For now, this rides in my Jeep as emergency gear.
Used it for a car camping weekend, paired it with a Byer of Maine Moskito Kakoon Hammock and a Klymit Ultralite V insulated pad. The under blanket insulates pretty well, it was particularly cozy. I would wish the instructions were a little clearer, I had to go to youtube to get a decent idea of how to place it. It packs small enough, and doesn't weigh much although I'm yet unsure if I would take it up with me for a trail and replace a tent. Good value for the price.
I have 2, one for me and one for my scout son. Works down to 40F, below that you need a little more insulation. Also it depends on the wind. To make it lighter, replace the suspension lines with lighter elastic cordage. I use it in conjunction with the snugpak hammock blanket. I also use the snugpak jungle nest sleeping bag for summertime hammock camping alone. I also have 2 snugpak blankets. I guess I'm a snugpak fanboy. It's hard to beat their value.
Rexar5I used it with a sleeping bag and a normal blanket(the sleeping bag was not rated for that cold of a night) .
The under quilt is important because a hammock will compress any blanket/sleeping bag underneath and around your sides greatly reducing the insulating factor. Under quilts don't wrap around the top, so you still need to prevent heat loss from above you with a blanket, sleeping bag, or both.
