I had one of these and promptly sold it to fund a TarpTent Notch. Why? This thing is designed for military use - if you want to be low to the ground and almost invisible in foliage, great. As an average backpacker I'd prefer to not feel like I'm sleeping in a coffin -- the TarpTent also allowed me to actually sit up and change in, as well had a vestibule for my gear. Just my $0.02.
This is stupid heavy for a 1 person backpacking tent. You can easily get a good 2 person tent that weighs less than this one. While the price is quite reasonable, you can easily find 1 person tents that weigh 1-2lbs less, for maybe double the investment.
I dropped the stuff sack reduced the number of stakes to 10 and it comes in at 42oz. You have to realize this has 16 stakes and that many stake out points. It would take extreme winds to move it. I'm 6'2" 220 pounds and can sleep with my 5500 cu in. pack as my pillow with the Xtherm large max pad and still has 4 inches or so to spare at the foot end and plenty of room to move around. I think it compares more to a solo tent than a bivy.
This looks virtually identical to the Slumberjack Infantry Coffin (my name, not theirs) that I used while I was Infantrying. Not sure I want those days backs.
