Perfect tool for tarp camping
The bivy adds quite a few degrees to your sleeping bag and keeps you dry when wind blows rain into your tarp.

Really useful
The sol escape bivi is marketed as both an emergency bivi and a warm weather sleeping bag substitute. I’ve tried both modes and will describe my experience. 1) comfort and breathability are amazing I climbed in it wearing sweaty gym clothes after a major workout and went to sleep outside on the back lawn woke up covered in dew but I and my clothes were dry! 2) fit seems odd to me foot box is huge, crazy huge, size 15 feet starfish sleeper huge. But elbows to waist is snug- but I’m 5-10 and 215# so might not be an issue for others, shoulders and hood comfortably roomy on me. The inconsistent material allocation is a mystery..... 3) warmth 70*F shorts & tee shirt 65*F add a hat. 60*F add socks 55*F hat, socks, long johns top and bottom 50*F add fleece hoody. 45*F full bore puffy and some hard core honey badger mojo. 40*F add a summer quilt to the mix but you better not be much over 175 lbs for this to fit. 35 degrees and colder use the bivi as a sleeping bag liner to extend its rating by 10-15 degrees. 4) yes it really fits back in the stuff sack if you fold & roll 5) definitely would recommend to a friend and will buy again when it eventually wears out.

This is an excellent choice for ultralight bivy options. I also use it for a liner on colder nights during the winter inside the bag. It breathes well as advertised. The only drawback is you have to be fairly gentle with it as it can tear if you're too hard on it.

This is very compact at 2 1/2 in diameter and 4 1/2 long. I bought it as part of my emergency kit and it's small size won't take up much room in my bag. I hope that when it has to be used that I will be able to roll it up to the same dimensions to fit in the the little bag it came in.

Long term user, for a cold sleeper like me the sol bivi has been used as a lightweight bivi (bag cover) while using single skin shelter. The bivi is light and packs tiny some extra re enforcement is needed were the two layers meet in the opening but apart from that it is great as a bag cover ( which is what i bought it for)

4643danDo not buy this for cold weather. These bivvies cause you to sweat and collect moisture to the point that your sleeping bag/clothes are wet. I tried one about 2yrs ago, my trip ended after the first night as my gear was wet. It ended up in the garbage where they all should be. Anything that has the shiny reflectix does not breath. Junk junk junk my 2 cents. You must work for the company.

ShawnRufusThese things are meant to save your life instead of being a comfort item. Who in their right mind need to have 95% of their body temp reflected in a normal setting? Unless of course you are already facing hypothermia........ at that time your body lacks the energy to produce the amount of heat to cause problems your are mentioning.

For what it is: ultra light, ultra quick & ultra compact protection from the elements, it's good. Just know that it does tend to seriously build up moisture and you'll have to deal with that when you get out after using it. Still, it's better than nothing and the really small form factor let's me carry one in my edc or day hike bag.

ShawnRufusI'm not an employee or in any way connected to massdrop or the manufacturer other than being a customer. I paid full boat (and docking fees ;) for my bivvy and no reason to lie. I used it in freezing temps (24 farenheit) for several nights without issue. The only serious moisture in the bivvy was directly around my face which was due to the moisture from my breath. I used heavy-weight polypropylene long johns, Froggtogg pants, seriously fluffy ugly Christmas socks/slippers, light weight gloves, a watch cap and an ultralight bubble down jacket to sleep in. I used an Enlightened Equipment 800 down filled bag/blanket and had a liter bottle of hot water between my legs. I slept on top of a simple foam pad and had my pack under my feet. This set up was in a tarp set up as a low, open lean-to with the open end facing a fire that was 3-4 yards away and burned out halfway through the night. In the morning, there was minor moisture on the outside of the bag/blanket/inside of bivvy which was easily wiped off with a small chamoise and a good amount of frost on the outside of the bivvy, but that was it. I was otherwise toasty, dry and comfortable. True story. I don't know what kind of set up you had and maybe it was junk for you, but it worked just fine for me.
