So I got these headphones, but I found the bass to be a little too tight. I'm a basshead and listen to a lot of psy trance and dark techno. I also appreciate other genres as well but yeah I need the deep bass. Not sure if I'm just used to crappy headphones? But these are the most expensive ones I've ever got. Are high quality headphones supposed to be this way? Thinking about getting the ATH m50s but not sure.

Hi. Yes I did use the equalizer, but it doesn't give me the bass that I want, which is deep, ear shaking bass.

The max bass I could get was cranking the clearbase setting up to 10 and choosing the outdoor stage VPT setting. I settled on a custom EQ with no VPT and 9 on clearbase, for most of my listening, but I did't want overpowered bass.

When I was shopping between the big 3 on these, the Sony's had good reviews. The poison pill though, was that say you're on a plane, and just want the ANC on without listening to music or watching a movie, to just kill outside noise so you can sleep. The Sony's would turn off after like 10 minutes by default without an audio source. Dumb engineering decision. Don't know if it's been fixed. I went with the Senn's. Really happy with them.

If you just want to block out noise, can you not just use $3 disposable ear plugs? They're way more comfortable, way more effective, infinitely more portable, don't run out of power, can stay in during take off and landing, and you can lean against a pillow.
I have the wh1000xm2's (which are great), and I much much prefer earplugs when I don't need any audio, such as when I'm sleeping.
Seriously, for blocking out sounds, try simple disposable high db earplugs instead of bulky noise cancellation headphones. I guarantee it'll win you over.

But WHY would you use NC headphones just to block sounds? This is not a design flaw - I'd much prefer to have this auto-shutdown to prevent battery drainage. It seems like overkill to use NC headphones to just block noise. It's not even overkill - it's actually 'underkill' but with much greater effort, because earplugs do a much better job at far less expense and effort. I really hope the Sony designers don't listen to this 'noise' and remove auto-shutdown, because to me that would be a real design flaw.
Heck, I don't even like that white-noise 'hiss' which all NC headphones noticeably produce when not playing music.

This headphone is great for what it is, a mid-range wireless bluetooth headphone. I'm writing this while listening to them. I do not have audiophile hearing, but I know what I like. The sound, to my ears, is also great. I would say that the 900N has a slight V-shaped sound, and at reasonable volume, these appear to be fairly accurate without muddiness from the bass. These can be paired with most Bluetooth compatible devices except for PS4. Oh Sony, why?
However, the main reason for this comment is to notify you of Costco's offering for the same headphones. It's been a couple of months since I've owned my pair, but if I recall correctly, Costco is offering these for about $20 less than Massdrop. https://www.costco.com/Sony-WH-H900N-Bluetooth-Noise-Canceling-Headphones.product.100403345.html Check it out. Online purchase also includes free shipping for members.
There's also a 1000N model out there with the same design but more expensive. I'm not sure what additional features the 1000N model offers to justify the additional costs.

I'm not sure which price you are referring to, but I was at Costco earlier browsing. They still have them in stock at the store for about $180, at least in my area. I'm not trying to contradict you B. Hutch. I'm just relaying my own shopping experience.
If anyone is still interested in these, do yourself a solid and check them out at Costco, especially if you or someone you know has membership.

When I made that post 3 days ago that was the price Costco was at. Now they are at a lower price.
