Unless I'm missing something, the XAV-AX1000 does not support Android Auto, only CarPlay.

LQDForceIt was a little of both but there are a few inconsistencies with the description. The AX1000 , which appears to be whats pictured, has a 6.2" screen not 6.4.

Love mine. Can‘t think of a lot of things that could make it better. Volume knob FTW—I use it way more than than I ever realized since I started paying attention.

I'm going to copypaste my post on the AX200 page since I didn't know they were going to drop this! I bought one of these awhile back, and am super happy with how it works.
-- Can confirm for anyone on the fence that my AX100 is a great piece of kit. It's a very simplistic deck but when Sony sets out to make something that "just works" they've absolutely nailed it on this generation. Even though it's a resistive screen it's pretty responsive. My use case mostly revolves around FM radio and Android Auto, since my deck is in a 93 Miata. (Any actual phone calls need not apply!) In particular, this fits an NA Miata great in the 1U brackets Metra sells since it's 1U in the back. I'm still working on a bezel fit solution but it looks just fine in there where many 2U units don't go in easy at all. It can power all six speakers very cleanly at volumes that work on the freeway top-down, but bass-heads will definitely still want a discrete sub. --

can someone tell me why i should change to this from my standard head unit? since i already got a 6.4" phone which i just mount near the head unit and use bluetooth.
which then become the display for all my media... including GPS!! whoops, Google maps i meant.
but seriously though, why ppl still bother to buy headunits... honestly need a different perspective

PapabearOH plus I wired the unit up to the "signal" from the reverse lights. Added a backup camera, and piped it in to the display... SO now when I put the car in reverse I get a nice clear view of what is near and around the back of the car...

Jay_Fo right, there's that huh, vehicle camera... wasn't using one, and mainly used the multimedia feature only on my car, and couldn't get past the idea that music, can do spotify, videos, can stream netflix, nav, can do live updates from google maps/here maps/etc...
but didn't consider about rear camera parking feature.
thanks!!

This is Sony's original first release for AA and CarPlay and is quite old. Inventory liquidation cleanout? Now if we could get a deal on the current Sony XAV-AX5000 unit, then we would be interested.

FreakyFredGenuinely curious, but what advantages does this newer model offer?
Edit: nevermind, did some research. AX5000 is 1/2” larger, uses a capacative screen vs resistive, is slightly faster, though apparently AX100 was apparently pretty speedy. Neither does HD radio and both require a wired connection to a phone for both CarPlay and Android Auto. Oh, and the newer model loses the volume knob for a volume rocker. Meh.
I’m gonna wait for wireless connectivity to become standard as well as the prices to go down
