Honestly, if you aren't using this headphone as balanced, it's not that great in my opinion. It's when you're listening as balanced, this product shines. That means you're going to need a PHA-3 to get the full potential out of this (unless if there are other dap/dac that has the Sony balanced female)
How different is it, like more bass/clarity etc? I have the Z7, never even touched the balanced cable (don't have PHA3), just wondering.
I've demoed the Z7 with PHA3 on balanced and it was the best set of cans i've ever heard...
I would love a pair but don't have the money :(
If i could trade my T90 + Bottlehead crack speedball for the z7 and ph3 i'd do it instantly haha
It will be driven by my soon to be arriving Cavalli audio liquid carbon amp in balanced mode.
There are no custom balanced cables out there using the more standard 4 pin XLR?
What cable will you be using?
The one that comes with but I will either have to re terminate it or try to find a 4pin XLR adaptor to the 3.5mm trs duals. Yup it will be a pain.
sorry for a very late reply...in short, the left and right are more separated / more clear sounding. especially noticable for instrumental such as jazz, classical, blues, big band etc. balanced doesn't really do much for edm, trance type of music as compared to real instrumental tracks.
imagine is this way....Unbalanced sends audio to the middle then at the fork, it separates left and right. balanced sends left to left, right to right from the source so there's no separation involved in the middle. in a way, it's two monos each one playing specific side
