Such a stupid price. Pha3 is about $520 with official warranty in China. And both z5 and z7 are about $390 with official warranty in China. And these prices are stable for more than one year.

I got this for $499 2 years ago enemy's it came out. Best sounding dap at that time but with the 1Z it's pretty useless.

I have it . It's amazing with ipod touch 2 and HD 650, but I don't know how it doesn't work with Opus#1

I scored this unit through my local Crai****** for $200! A week ago, I purchased the MDR Z7 and can vouch for its performance. It powers my HD800 with ease as well. I just wish this unit was priced for less than $500 so others could enjoy its wonderful sound.

I'm usually not into price discussions, but this is crazy price for a DAC/amp that is over 3 years old, and has been only limited... by its poor availability in many markets.
In Europe, we only got a butchered version without battery, but for 599$.
To add more, the balanced output are not the most useful ones either for portable gear, and the amp is hardly portable either.

$725 is a fine price, but the PHA-3 has been usurped within Sony by the Asian-market PHA-2A (not to be confused with the PHA-2). The PHA-2A delivers roughly same specs as the PHA-3, but features the newer Sony proprietary 4.4mm balanced output. It also can be had for $450 on Amazon US, with free two day shipping. Honestly, even if the PHA-3 were $450, I think the PHA-2A is the better buy... I really like 4.4mm balanced.

WildMurphIt sure is buddy. I just purchased the little dot mk 2 and am enjoying it like crazy with my sony walkmanZX2, Fostex, Grados , hifiman , Sony's etc etc . Now rolling tubes. LOL it never ends. Just went on eBay looking at those Z7 s. I won't, wont I'm stronger than this..... LOL
