I have a set of the Sony noise cancellers, and they're the best of that breed that I've ever listened to. (Used to fly three or four days a week so noice cancelling 'phones were a part of my strategy for not going deaf... airplanes are hazardously loud.) The sound quality is good enough that I don't mind using them when I'm listening for enjoyment. I couldn't say that about any of the previous over ear noise cancellers I've owned.
The adaptive sound control is fantastic, these are the ONLY over ear headphones I'd wear in crowds or on the street. The gesture controls are quite good, very intuitive, at least to me. The only downside I've found is that in a stiff wind, they can do weird chuff noises - the wind tricks the cancellation circuits into weird behavior. But, I'm talking about a real strong wind. I've also had two other noise cancellers that did the same thing, so it's not a Sony problem, but a noise cancellation issue.
I also have a set of the 6XX and they're one of my absolute favorites when I need a stiff dose of great listening.
