Lose the cords and listen to your music wirelessly with the Sony WH-CH700N headphones. Whether you’re in a crowd, on the train, or in any other noisy environment, Sony’s Artificial Intelligence noise-canceling technology actively cuts out unwanted sound Read More
I have never been disappointed with any Sony headphones I have owned for the past 35 years. But the last set I bought was the classic MDR-V6 back in 1989. I like a natural sounding headphone that minimizes any "coloring" of the sound. Sony usually delivers on that. These WH-CH700N headphones follow in that tradition. Wired and by bluetooth it sounds good. I did try the processed EQ modes, but naturally I found them to sound artificial and turned that off. The noise-cancelling feature seems to get criticized on these phones, but really it does work on a basic level. I could stand next to my dishwasher and could not hear it running. Listening with music paused and a TV on in the background I could hear the TV sound, but that sound would then get louder when the N-C was turned off. Traffic noise outdoors, same story. I tried it while mowing the lawn. Again, mower sounded more muted when N-C was turned on. But wind blowing across the microphone made loud rustling unfortunately. So don't expect silence, but that doesn't mean N-C isn't working either.
Fits my ears fine, but feels like a mildly tighter squeeze against the sides of the head compared to those old MDR-V6 phones. I like that there are no exposed wires around the cans. The NFC pairing works great with my Walkman mp3 player. Only requires a tap of the player to the left ear and it is good to go. I tried the phone app, but I have no need for it. It did a firmware upgrade of the headphones as part of the setup (and I personally never thought I would have headphones that required updating software 30 years ago) and that took about 15 minutes to complete. So this is not the top-level Sony headphones, but they are fine for the money. I have no complaints for the acoustics. Bluetooth feature works very well, including the play/pause and track skip button. The connecting audio cable is a bit..cheap. Can only really be used with a portable player being 4 feet long, but you have the option of attaching another one of your own. And I still have the MDR-V6 with the long coiled cable and 1/4" phone connector for going old-skool.
