The SOTO AeroMug 450 is double walled and insulated, functioning like a thermos to keep beverages hot or cold. Made of titanium, the 15-ounce mug is naturally BPA free and resists corrosion Read More
cbhikerNo. It's not especially dangerous to try but you will oil can or otherwise ruin the mug walls. These are air insulated and while that doesn't make for a truly great thermos-style insulation, it's still a barrier to direct heating and trying to boil in one will take forever. I believe there are some youtube videos where people tried/tested this with other brands of double wall titanium mugs if you want to search those out.
cbhikerIt's not a good idea to boil water in any double wall container. There are YouTube videos about it. This is to keep your hot coffee or chocolate hot longer and not burn your hands or lips. If you want a lightweight fancy coffee cup this is it but do NOT use it to boil
I like a dedicated mug when I backpack for hot drinks. I considered titanium but rejected it as too expensive and settled on the GSI Infinity mug. Only $10 (with lid!!) and you can easily attach the lid to the handle by drilling a small hole and using a short length of guyline. Oh, the weight is 3.5 oz.
I'm assuming you're asking because you're possibly considering the Snow Peak lid on the Soto mug. Wouldn't you want to know if it would fit before asking Massdrop to make it available?
Tempting, but it doesn't beat out my regular system of a 750ml Ti pot with a handle and hotlips. If I drank my coffee slower and did more winter camping I'd be all about this, but it's hard to justify another cooking piece when everything in my current system fits perfectly in the pot.
Received mine and seems fine. This is the first non-Snow Peak Ti mug I have ever owned (I own 3 SP's of varying sizes). It seems to be equivalent in quality to the Snow Peak alternative. The real reason I posted this note is to mention that the Kleen Kanteen tumbler lid fit these perfectly. Easy to grab from Amazon.
GingermanI know I'm late to the party, but this is JUST THE INFORMATION I've been scouring the web for! Ordered the Aeromug/Helix combo, bit definitely want a lid for chilly NE and Adk morning coffees! Thanks!
