Product Description
The SOTO Field Hopper backpacking table is great for when you find yourself on wet or snow-covered terrain, or simply want a small platform to keep your kitchen setup off the ground. Made of aluminum and stainless steel, the table weighs less than 14 ounces and won’t rust or oxidize over time Read More
I missed the last drop and ordered one of these from another source. I like it just fine, but the model I received was made in Taiwan, not Japan. This last drop states that "design, manufacturing, and inspection are all done at SOTO's factory in Japan." If this drops again, please verify the country of origin and make sure the description is accurate. No shade on Massdrop (for all I know, the country of origin just changed) or Taiwan, but if a country of origin is indicated, it should be correct.
It's a nice lightweight aluminum table but I use the Ultralight Backpacking Table from Cascade Wild.

At only 2.2 ounces (60 grams), there's no reason not to carry it. It is plastic so you can't put hot stuff on it directly, but it's really useful.
bertman4Wow ! Just ordered two of the cascade wild tables. Perhaps Massdrop should look into a drop with them, small outfit that needs exposure, that's the things they should be on the lookout for and offering. Thanks for the heads up.
Hi All, Somegood suggestions here, especially the Cascade Designs (didn't know it could take heat from stove fuel) . I found this one which is close to the size of the Helinox, in quality too but way lighter. A couple of people have criticised it on Amazon but i've had no such issue and fits together in same way as my helinox Table 1.
It may still be too heavy for some but for its size i think the small at 450gm may appeal.

Nice little table. At 14oz I don't think a lot will take backpacking other then short trips with a heavy pack. I might get it for when I kayak camp and weight is not as much an issue. I do have a small plastic table, the weight is about 2oz or so that I use all the time and can say it is nice to have a flat surface to cook or do food prep on.
I have the Suluk table (the full slotted version), and I carry it with me on most trips, unless I know there will be plenty of hard, flat surfaces where I'm headed and/or I'm confident there will be no rain - that's actually why I balked at 14 ounces, because I do have that one that I picked up from MD and it weighs 3.6 oz. The Tulimak is a handy little piece of equipment if you like the little luxury of a flat, dry surface.
@EverythingIsBetterOutdoors very true that the cost of the material does not equal the price. The same can be said for a $300 rain jacket that’s a length of material, some thread and cord. It’s all in the perceived value. If the Cascade Wild has the same utility as the SOTO at 1/4 the weight and 1/3 the price, then for some it will be seen as a better value in comparison. For me, $30 for a 14oz table isn’t worth including in my pack. However, $10 and 3.6oz for the same function is.
This seems like a neat thing to bring along camping if you had the room to spare. Reviews on Amazon Japan are nearly universally good. It would be nice to always have a stable surface to put my cutting board on that isn't my thighs.
