frankgeterI used mine at right around 9800' (Minaret Lake) and it struggled. Once I figured out it just needed to get warm it worked fine. Stuck it in my pocket for a few minutes and it fired right up. Same result the next early morning at 9300' (Lake Ediza).
frankgeterI got the non-XT version... the SOTO Pocket Torch. As a cigar smoker I wanted something I could fly with when needed but I also felt that being able to use any square-bodied disposable lighter was a nice touch. I always go after the adjustable ones and mod them so they blow like bunsen burners (btw, doing so doesn't seem to make that much difference, it just makes me feel better). Even configured that way they're good for a decent amount of use.
frankgeterFrank if you don't need to fly but you just need a good torch lighter to carry and use at high altitude I highly recommend the Xikar Stratosphere II. It requires good fuel like Xikar Purofine to work the way it should but I used this at altitude and it ran like a champ.
packydbI would be inclined to use the refillable with the iso butane blends available in all good stoves. In the rare air over 6000 definitely keep it closer to my thumpin heart. In survival kit protocol you always shout have a ditty pouch next to you when it hits Marde.
Summit or bald lights are what caught my interest.
0lepackerTrue this... I was at 11k ft with the Soto and it only worked after 10 minutes warming in my pocket. The Xikar Stratosphere worked just fine at the foot of Pikes Peak.
