I was looking a this product And the Lockpick Practice Kit with progressive locks, I want Both of them, it looks better with the Rubber Handles, Do you have to put them on yourself? From a post below someone mentioned having to put them on. Just curious. I have always wanted to practice Lockpicking and possibly become a Locksmith. Being a Disabled Veteran, I have a Lot of time on my hands and I need to keep up my dexterity! I was an Aircraft Crew Chief in the Air Force and did a lot of Minute Detail work with bolts and safety wire. This seems like a Great way to keep my dexterity at peak performance. Just wish the Lockpicks came with a little more practice information. Otherwise, these Picks look like the Perfect tools for that!

TitaniumspineAs far as I know, you do need to put on the rubber handles by yourself. I myself have the one with the steel handles and have liked the extra rigidity of them.

SomeTechNoobI have both versions, stainless handle and rubber handle. The stainless came completely assembled. No need to do anything.
The rubber kit came with the picks packed in a clear plastic bag, and the rubber slip-on handles packed separately in their own bag. You do have to slide the rubber handles onto each pick, one-by-one, yourself. It's a hassle. But it's easier if you use one of the heating methods outlined above to make the rubber pliable first.
I'm not sure which version I like better. The stainless handles seem stiff and very durable. But the rubber handles have a nicer gripping surface.
The stainless comes in the slim button close case. The rubber comes in the clam shell zipper case (which is nicer).
But if there's one area where the stainless really trumps the rubber (besides the stiffness and durability) is that the stainless kit feels notably slimmer and, therefore, more easily packed. The rubber kit seems big and bulky in comparison.

SomeTechNoobThank you for the Honest opinion. I have trouble with my hands due to nerve damage in my entire spinal cord, do you find that the steel noses are easy to manipulate? Or do you think that perhaps someone with limited fine motor skills might find the rubber handle ones to be a bit easier? I am interested in these because I want to learn, and I want to try to build or keep as much dexterity in my hands as possible. I have a Very strong Grip, (mostly because I cannot feel things very well and tend to compensate with strength instead of dexterity) this is something I want and need to continue to work on. Any thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks again for the answer to my question.

TitaniumspineI cannot answer your question directly but I thought I would take the time to say that you are truly an inspiration :)
I have only used the metal sets and they can be slick. If you wrapped the handles in ducttape it might solve the problem but I am not sure.
I would wait until someone who has owned the rubber grips comment and go from there.

whiped93Thank You for your comment! I apologize about the time it has taken me to respond. I had yet another Surgery, and have been somewhat out of commission for a while. I agree that there should be laws about lock picking and owning Lock pics. I have only thought of it as a therapeutic management tool for fine motor skills. Thinking about what you have said I believe there is a very good reason for the laws in place. Of course any tool, in the wrong hands, can be very Bad. I am all about privacy, however if there is an issue where people are (and will) use them for Nefarious means, then by the law the names of purchasers of such equipment should be made available to. The authorities for the area concerned. Not a Blanket opening for the entire site or ordering. Just my opinion. Thanks again for your kind words!
