Space Cables is the benchmark of custom USB cables
I'm so glad I got the Laser Aviators to complete the look of my Laser themed keyboard. The quality of Space Cables is well known throughout the mechanical keyboard community and I would say they've pretty much set the benchmark for custom cables.

If I were to nitpick the appearance of the cable, there is one thing I wish could match better and that would be the heat shrink colorway on the connectors. I don't really fault Space Cables since I'm pretty sure no one makes heat shrink with exact colors of the GMK Laser keycap sets. I've seen other vendors use purple heat shrinks and that doesn't really match the Laser colorway either.

The aviator connector is pretty standard with no Cerakote coating like their other offerings. I personally think it's fine since silver is a pretty neutral color and doesn't take away from rest of the theming. In fact, the bare metal makes it look more cold and machine-like.

One final note is regarding the LED brightness of Drop's keyboards with this cable. If you have other keyboards, please skip to the last paragraph for conclusion. For what it's worth, this cable did not affect the LED brightness of my NK65 keyboard.
Connecting this cable dimmed the brightness of the LEDscompared to original Drop ALT cable but it's not due to the cable length as many seem to believe. The uncoiled length of the 5 ft Laser Aviator cable is well within the USB specification for cable length (16 ft). Compared to the default USB cable that came with Drop ALT, this cable is USB 2.0 only. There are implications for this because USB specification for USB 2.0 states that the maximum current a device may pull is limited to 500mA while USB 3.0 allows up to 900mA. In fact, I've tested this on many cables and found that my LEDs consistently dim whenever I use any USB 2.0 cable as opposed to USB 3.0 cables. The dim LEDs did bother me a bit so I ended up researching ways to remedy this problem.
Before I present the solution below, please read carefully: YOU MUST BE CONNECTED TO A USB HOST DEVICE SUCH AS A POWERED USB HUB THAT CAN HANDLE THE AMPERAGE OTHERWISE YOU WILL OVERLOAD YOUR USB HOST PORT. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IN ANY WAY IF YOU DAMAGE YOUR USB PORT OR YOUR KEYBOARD THIS WAY. IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING, JUST KNOW THAT DIM LEDS ARE BETTER THAN DEAD KEYBOARD OR USB PORT.The easiest way is to press FN + SHIFT + CTRL + I on stock firmware to disable power limits. If your LED flickers or your keyboard reboots, that means you're drawing too much current.
The other way is to modify the QMK firmware to always draw more power. This involves modifying V5_HIGH, V5_LOW, V5_CAT, as well as modifying LED_GCR_MAX values in config_led.h in the QMK firmware code. Again, messing with these values without knowing what you're doing is potentially dangerous so I'm not gonna post the actual values here. Your values will differ depending on your motherboard, USB hub, etc.
TL;DR: it is possible to drive LEDs at full brightness on Drop keyboards with this cable. Other keyboards like NK65 don't seem to be affected.
In conclusion, Space Cables is one of the most reputable custom cable makers in the mech keyboard community and if you like the GMK Laser colorway, get this cable while it lasts.
Great cables to take your setup to the next level. The colors are EXACTLY as the renders which is great. Feels and works just like a high quality cable.
if I could buy all their cables I would.
10/10 for space cables.
This cable was definitely on the expensive side, but it is nice. The coil is nice and tight, though basically impossible to keep perfect. I do wish they would have had the connector side going into the coil be at a 90 degree angle, since I like the coil running parallel to my keyboard. I got it kind of trained to sit that way, but it's not as tight as the coil and bends a bit funny.

Aviator connectors also just aren't the nicest detachable connectors out there, and a matching color cerakote like Space Cables has been doing would probably look better than the silver.
The cable is well manufactured. Coils are even, connector is well put together and it's a reasonable length. Sleeving and heat shrinking is well done with no defects. Colour looks great...matches my ALT teal+salmon colour scheme, light blue high profile case and GMK 8008 deskmat.
There are two downsides, and probably won't be downsides for most people...
The cable should be USB3.0 at least, and not USB2.0 spec, Use it as a point of differentiation from other manufacturers.
Drop should probably make sure that accessories they sell on their site work properly with their keyboards. This cable won't power the CTRL and ALT properly resulting in dimmer leds, and the RED leds not working properly due to being underpowered (needs a USB3.0). I shouldn't have to go find a USB powered hub or similar. Works fine with my DZ60RGB though.
GoldilokZThis is not a drop design and made cable they only sell it. It is your fault for not looking up your power consumption of your keyboard. And it can't be usb 3 because more and different wires are used and the cable is thicker making it sleeved super hard.
FirstAtomYes I understand that, nor did I actually say Drop made it...you assumed that, however....my comment is still correct. Drop should have ensured cables that are sold on their site are compatible with the keyboards they promote...I'd definitely grab a coiled USB3.0 or USBC cable over any 2.0 offering.
Also, where are the power draw stats on the ALT and CTRL pages? As of this comment, they are not there.
And so...make the cable thicker? USB3.0 is possible....I'm saying in my review something that I, and I'm sure others would prefer in their cable offering, not just taking what's currently on offer. Things don't improve when people think the status quo is ok.
The cable is beautiful.
Going in, I knew that I might have issues with the Drop ALT, and giving it enough power, so I went with the 3ft option. Anticipating this may not be enough, I purchased a USB hub with an external PSU to ensure there was enough power for the keyboard when using the cable. Thankfully, there is enough power coming through to keep the keyboard on at 60-70% brightness. Anything above that leads to blinking.
Aside from that, the cable is perfect! The coil is uniform and tight. The colors are vibrant (though not a s vibrant as the photos suggest), the aviator connector is gorgeous, and the cable feels like its well built.
No problem! I'm happy to help :)
As far as I know all of them should work just fine. The Space Cables cable is a USB 2.0. The power draw standard for USB 2.0 has a max of .5 amps. As long as you do not exceed the power limit with all of the other devices you may plug in to the hub combined, you should be fine.
