Our GMK Laser keycap set is back with new kits and thousands of new fans, but one thing remains the same: an unmistakable retro style capable of transforming any board. Call it cyberpunk, call it vaporwave—now, you can bring the Laser look to a brand-new cable Read More
Hey everyone, this question gets asked pretty frequently regarding keyboards with known power issues, so I'll answer it here and have it stickied. @ElbertWe do an extensive amount of in-house testing exclusively with Drop branded keyboards.
We have come to find that there is no voltage drop when doing throughput tests (even down to millivolts) for lengths varying from 3ft with coils, all the way to 7ft with coils.
The underlying issue is going to be: Is the 5v output from your motherboard being split to too many devices?
These cables have always worked fine in our in-house testing environment, but we have received feedback from a small amount of consumers that have had dim LED issues state that an option in their Bios settings to apply additional output through the USB ports on their computer worked, or a powered USB hub that plugs into an electrical outlet to provide a full dedicated 5v to their keyboard worked, as their "power budget" of USB power was being split too much for their keyboard to work.
the ctrl just happens to be a power hungry board i have both an ctrl and alt and have had problems with both as far as flickering and leds being dim. my main board is an NK 65 EE and can fully power the boards leds. sadly the ctrl and alt are to power hungry
MajorNonToxicYaa I didn't end up doing the RMA, I've kind of just come to terms with the CTRL being power hungry. It's not so bad if I just turn down the LED brightness a bit.
Hello everyone, the previously posted laser group buy-(that had an expected timeframe of mid-July for fulfillment)-shipped out in early July to Drop.
The most current one due in mid-August is shipping out to Drop's warehouse tomorrow.
spacecablesWhat's going on here, my shipping status says information received by ascendia in July and it's already August for me and not update...? Is this a shipping to drop or to me
UmareruThat would be the item shipping from Drop to you, I would reach out and contact Drop's support for an update with that if you have any questions related to fulfillment.
This is nice, but I never buy into any of these cables cause I just can't get past the fact that we're STILL using colored heat shrink tubing for the USB ends... In all the years of custom cables, is no one able to do actual shells on the ends? Even a plastic or anodized aluminum "flattened tube" resined around the heatshrink ought to be something. I mean... Is this just not something people have looked into, or are USB connectors with proper shells not economical? I guess I'm a bit curious. I mean, the cylindrical connector in the middle is an off the shelf component, with a shell... Is there truly no place for the USB connectors to see improvements?
richfilesThis is definitely a preference thing.
I for one oppose the aesthetic of hard plastic shell housing.
Production level Injection molding machines also start at around $30-50,000 to add the plastic housing, not including the mold cost which is also very high per different USB molding needed.
The plastic itself is comparably priced to heat shrink, possibly cheaper, but the cost of entry is the factor here.
If we instead outsourced this process, we would have to ship every cable (once they are completed) to a facility to have it done, which would increase the cost per cable a ton and cause further delays.
All of the items are completed and are awaiting picking from the freight service.
The expected arrival to Drop's fulfillment center is currently April 12 - April 18 or sooner.
