Our GMK Laser keycap set is back with new kits and thousands of new fans, but one thing remains the same: an unmistakable retro style capable of transforming any board. Call it cyberpunk, call it vaporwave—now, you can bring the Laser look to a brand-new cable Read More
MetaloidI personally love the pink paracord/blue techflex look. It's a great buy, hopefully they get a ton of business from it, but I will wait until the next run if/when they color match the aviator/connector sleeves. Just seeing this pink aviator from their store shows how awesome that could look: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0351/4577/7289/products/pink-aviator.png?v=1590035012
daverogersLet's be real here... I'll told myself "No, be an adult, save your hard earned pennies and wait for the next version".
NOPE... placed an order and will most likely order another when they drop the next. An adult I am certainly NOT. haha
Hey everyone, this question gets asked pretty frequently regarding keyboards with known power issues, so I'll answer it here and have it stickied. @ElbertWe do an extensive amount of in-house testing exclusively with Drop branded keyboards.
We have come to find that there is no voltage drop when doing throughput tests (even down to millivolts) for lengths varying from 3ft with coils, all the way to 7ft with coils.
The underlying issue is going to be: Is the 5v output from your motherboard being split to too many devices?
These cables have always worked fine in our in-house testing environment, but we have received feedback from a small amount of consumers that have had dim LED issues state that an option in their Bios settings to apply additional output through the USB ports on their computer worked, or a powered USB hub that plugs into an electrical outlet to provide a full dedicated 5v to their keyboard worked, as their "power budget" of USB power was being split too much for their keyboard to work.
the ctrl just happens to be a power hungry board i have both an ctrl and alt and have had problems with both as far as flickering and leds being dim. my main board is an NK 65 EE and can fully power the boards leds. sadly the ctrl and alt are to power hungry
MajorNonToxicYaa I didn't end up doing the RMA, I've kind of just come to terms with the CTRL being power hungry. It's not so bad if I just turn down the LED brightness a bit.
I love this color combo, but that chrome connector is a polarizing choice imo. Holding off on this one until it's available with a black aviator.
Here is that same picture of his uncropped with the black connector:

Nah I Know. I wasn't planning on painting one, and don't really have the setup to cerakote stuff. I was just explaining to the guy above me cerakote would be the preferred method, but I was just curious about buying one of your already cerakoted connectors and putting it on but yeah I don't really want to void warranty and butcher my first space cable (I'm regretting that I forgot to grab a MODO2 cable from ya before the GB ran out, but I wouldn't be mad if you decided to make a few extra and slide in my DMs 😂). Preciate the reply man
It would be great if we could get the option for extra connectors, especially with the coil on the connector side and coils causing problems for MD's own keyboards.
I'm not responsible for this product run. You're barking up the wrong tree. Like I said, nothing I say will be enough, so I won't even bother with you.
Sorry, I assumed "you" would obviously refer to "Drop, in general," not "you, Elbert, individually and specifically." If you step in to defend the (imo poor) choices of the company, you get to see my complaints about them.
Hi everyone, everything was shipped out at the start of week 2 this month to Drop's fulfillment center!
Here's a quick social media update we posted about this:

KeebieVERY rough estimate (and likely a bit off since some numbers have to be guessed), but a coil 6" long with a radius of 0.25" and an assumed cable width of 0.25" gives ~36" of cable needed. So that gives a total cable run of about 8' or around 2.5m. At a load (current) of 500mA, there's an acceptable voltage drop of less than 0.25V (5% of the spec 5V). Once you get to 1000mA/1A, the voltage drop is above 0.25V, but less than 0.5V. At 2A, the voltage drop is over 0.5V, meaning if the keyboard is expecting 5V since it is USB, it's getting less than 4.5V.
All of this is assuming the power is on 20AWG wire. The closer to 28AWG (still within spec for USB cables), the worse the drop in voltage. So, if you want a coil, the 3ft would have less impact, but it still has problems at 2A.
Hey everyone so I just got a shipment notification. I ordered mine end of July so looks like we should be getting them soon. My stance on Drop and there atrocious customer service however remains the same. Once Red Samurai and Laser ship in Q2 I’m done with this company. I’ll stick to normal vendors as they regularly provide updates unlike drop. This experience has left an eternally bad taste in my mouth
