Am not impressed with these polos. Not an expert on polos, but these seem unsubstantial in terms of the quality / "hand" of the material. This is at odds with the "hype" of the drop copy. @Coffeegroove seems to have the bead on the misrepresentations. Would not buy again and recommend against. The only things these polos got going is relatively good for hot weather because they're flimsy. What are MD's responsibilities with respect to "curating" goods on behalf of its communities? Quality, utility, price, "truth in advertising" and so on -- MD drops need to meet some set of essential criteria to "protect" the community. Feedback / food for thought!

Took receipt of mine on Friday. I sized down one to small and the fit is OK for me. I typically take custom fit or slim fit in Polo Ralph Lauren. I'd say the style is less conservative as the arms are a bit longer than my Polo polos.
Fabric feels OK, but nothing super special.

Supremely unimpressed with the sizing on this drop. I get it's 'slim fit' but I ordered and XXL and it's no bigger than a L. What a rip.

This is so full of BS that any person with some knowledge would be infuriated. To start:
  1. Fukuhara has like 80% of the knitting machine market worldwide. It’s not like they dug up some Japanese machine from 1925. It’s the cheapest machine out there that just happens to be of Japanese origin (but made in China)
  2. All low end fabrics are already enzymed to hide flaws. Most high end are NOT enzymed. But use a more expensive process called mercerized. 100% of H&M is enzymed. They don’t boast about it because it’s noting special.
  3. If you are using long fibers please mention the origin. The best are supima (good ol USA) and Egyptian Giza. From the looks of it, this one is probably from India. Which happens to be the crappiest and cheapest. It barely technically qualifies as “long”.
  4. Where the hell is this thing made in? So much BS but nothing about where it’s made in?

All this BS has really made me hate this drop and brand. If you want something more genuine, check out suitsupply. Less BS and more genuine. More importantly they don't need Massdrop to peddle their wares. This site has been an insta-brand's dream lately. So much BS is passing at prices they shouldn't. Its like the biggest gathering place for sheeples. People rarely get a volume discount. Its possible to have stuff for less using patience.

Are sales taxes applied to Canadian orders in addition to the shipping cost?

bibbertNo taxes are applied when you order. I just received my delivery of 3 button-down shirts (to Toronto). I was shocked and greatly disappointed that customs did not charge me any duties (including HST). Now, I must find another way to meaningfully contribute to the Canadian tax coffers. You can also check spiersandmackay.com for sales in CDN$ - they have had a CDN$19.99 sale for some time now, but the available sizes is by now very limited.

flyin2flyoutThanks for the info. The polos on sale on their site look to be last year's midel with ribbed sleeves. I much prefer the newer ones like those in this drop.
Happy Canada Day!

I bought 2 of these from their website a few months ago for $25/ea. Green and charcoal. For reference, I'm a 42R, 16.5in neck, 34 waist and the Large is a slim fit, particularly across the chest. Waist is fine. It's the appropriate size for me, but the upper body is a bit tight. My honest opinion is that the cut and styling is an 8/10, quality and workmanship is 5/10, colors 7/10. The green is actually a great color, the charcoal is fine but a little flat. I'd say $20 is a fair price, not necessarily a bargain. My suggestion to Spier & Mackay for the next version is to pay attention to details like button holes, loose threads, make the collar less floppy and beef up the fabric by 15-20%.

HansRTo me, the material is the right thickness - especially during this week's heatwave in Toronto. For the button-down variant that I had bought, and in contrast to your experience, I actually think the collar is too thick (i.e. hot and stiff)! The arms were a bit tight at first - not uncomfortable but just unexpected; however, they loosed up after a few minutes. Note that this shirt has a normal human athletic cut (fits me just fine) - if HansR finds the chest tight, I suggest a super human athletic cut :) .

HansRUpdate to my previous reply: I just returned from a trip to Thailand and Cambodia during rainy reason, where it is extraordinarily hot and humid. I wouldn't recommend these shirts for that type of environment - the fabric stretches and misshapes in the humidity to the point the buttons don't stay buttoned (which I think you may have alluded to), and the thinner parts of the shirt droops. My other cotton t-shirts (non collared) did not have that problem. I probably should not have been wearing collared shirts to begin with - I'll stick to synthetics next time.

If sizing corresponds to the regular collar polos offered in previous drops (and the size table suggests as much) then you definitely do not want to size up as suggested in the note in the description unless you are looking for a super loose fit. With practically any other brand polo I fit a size L (athletic build, 1.87m, 91kg), while a M would burst at the seams around chest and/or shoulders. But with these Spier & Mackay polos downsizing to M was required to achieve any semblance of a slim fit. There seems to be a major vanity sizing effect going on compared to regular European sizes, possibly due to the on average more obesily challenged North-American target audience.
Once the necessary size adjustment is taken into account, however, these polos offer great fabric quality and a flattering cut.

I wish I could feel comfortable buying clothes (or footwear) "sight unseen" when "all sales final". I just can't.
