a_nishI got one on a previous drop (the Cahill). For the price I really like the watch. Fit and finish is a far cry from my IWC and the movement is so so (doesn't hack, hand winding, while possible, is difficult, runs out of juice quickly), but the IWC was roughly 25x the cost and I probably wear my Spinnaker more. The watch won't go anywhere near 1000m. Depth ratings are somewhat arbitrary unless ISO certified, so a 100m depth rating is ok for watersports but probably not scuba diving, while 1000m is probably fine for regular scuba but not saturation diving.

a_nishI have been looking into them a good amount lately because they are wp to the bottom of the freaking ocean. This intrigues me as a wanna-be-man-o-science. Their website has sexy ass watches and they use Seiko innards so you end up getting a Presage with a 10x waterproof case... for cheaper than a Seiko? With a killer screw down crown?! It seems to be madness... So I am sold on this drop. That grey is dope.
They did have some defects on a previous run that a fellow user by the name of PetrosD (who is awesome) demonstrated well in the following video but it sounds like they did right by everyone with replacements and such?:

ECKSTERI feel like people that say '100M isn't enough for scuba diving' don't actually dive. I went on several dives with a 30M WR Watch, and I stayed within ~65 feet. The watch was completely fine. 100M is way more than enough, let alone 1000M.

crootUnless you live in sealab 2021, but that is still at least 4 years away so we got time to mess around with lesser watches I guess. :P

crootI'm certified for open water and deep diving, have done hundreds of dives around the world, and I think you're missing my point. I agree that 100m is fine for the vast majority of dives (this depth is classified as a deep dive). The issue is a rating of 100m doesn't always mean you can go down 100m. Maybe your 30m watch could do 100ft, but many can't. Many watch sites (including Spinnaker's, I believe) have suggestions for "safe" water activities, and these don't usually match up with depth "ratings". As I said, unless ISO certified, the depth ratings aren't accurate. Google "dive watch depth ratings" and you can educate yourself in this.

ECKSTERAs a certified ocean-dweller, in stupid's terms, what does this mean? " with an automatic Helium release valve capable of expunging molecules of Helium automatically should the wearer be ascending in a hyperbaric chamber. " This watch sounds showerproof at least.

ECKSTERI wasn't denying that you are a diver yourself, I was speaking for the majority of both people and sites that will say that. If a watch is certified to go 100M, it was pressure tested (if it was a brand worth your time that is) to 100M and to be able to maintain that pressure while still functioning fully. I have 100% confidence in any watch I bring with me diving that is at least 30M, which most are 100M+, anyway.

crootAgreed. 100%. But the vast majority of depth ratings aren't certified. Spinnaker's are not, I believe. But this watch would be fine for diving...

ECKSTERThe watch should be able to withstand the depth rated. Otherwise it's misleading advertising or a manufacturing defect.
Manufacturing defects do happen in mass produced objects, and this is where ISO certification comes in, to ensure that no manufacturing defect is present in your *specific* watch, in mission-critical situations where you can't have it fail.
Every watch that is advertised even as 50m watch résistant should withstand (except statistical outliers) 50m underwater, and if not it's covered by warranty.
The "suggestions" manufacturers use are a complete scam and a way for them to handwave responsibility for ensuring quality control, as well as honoring the warranty. And also gives them carte blanche to misadvertise blatantly, because they can always say "well, it is 200m water resistant, but in our suggestions we don't recommend amything less than 300m for diving".
For real?! It's ridiculous to see people worried to take a swim with their 50m watch, especially since even trained amateur divers rarely go deeper than 15-20m.
Use the watches at the depth they're advertised and if they fail, send them back for warranty repairs and slam the manufacturer on social media for their terrible quality control. A 50m watch failing at 20m is a great statistical outlier and if it happens more than extremely, exceptionally rarely, the manufacturer's quality control is utter rubbish.

smallbitThanks for the compliment! Despite the defective Spence, which I returned to MD (painless return/refund process) I have bought two other Spinnakers (not from MD) and am happy with them. I recommend the brand for the price.

a_nishI have two of the limited edition 49ers and the quality is very good...with a unique yacht timer seiko custom movement.
I am in on this drop due to the value of an automatic and the design.
I see the value of this brand increasing over time.

Okanaganguy"True panic"? I'm not sure what you mean by this. Dive watches aren't used to determine how much air you have left (usage varies by depth and you've got a gauge for that). The rotating bezel is set at the beginning of the dive and read at the end of the dive to determine how long you were down. This information is then used to determine your "recovery" time so you know when you can safely dive again. There's not much need to be able to read your watch when underwater.

OkanaganguyAnd I don't think you've actually been underwater outside of a swimming pool. In life, if you refrain from commenting on things you know nothing about, you'll maybe look like less of a total moron... and I'll take "know-it-all" over that, thank you sir. You still haven't explained your asinine comment about not being able to read this watch in a "true panic". Cuz when I'm in a panic underwater (and I have been, mind you), the first thing I need to do is see what time it is. Nimrod.

OkanaganguyIt's all clear now. A brave senior citizen spouting off about the days before diving watches, guages, computers, etc. Stick to your bridge Mr. Lobster diver. You finish high school for that? Still haven't explained your stupid "panic" comment. That's all I'm waiting for. But I'm sure you've got some witty retort in store. By all means, continue with your mental masturbation.
