(this is a genuine, curious, and zero-sarcasm question) what is the fascination with spinning tops? I've never seen them for sale except when I joined massdrop and I see tops and tables for them. They're beautifully designed, but I assume it's gotta be more than that.
Mikey the short answer is that there many answers - different people like them for different reasons; some to relieve stress, some for ADD/Aspergers/Autism, some for the artistic aspect, some for the spin aspect, some because they just like stuff made by dudes in their garage. :) Join up to one of the main Facebook groups "Pocket Top Talk" (https://www.facebook.com/groups/pockettoptalk/), there are over 3.800 members and would be your place to get started if you're serious about it.
thanks for the info - very tinteresting
I picked this drop to ask the same question, pretty much, and you already had a great answer waiting for me. Thanks. I was curious what difference a ruby bearing made :D
I posted my answer to a similar question in other top thread so I would repeat it here:
People also carry pocket tops to keep a grip on reality, at least I do. It's a crazy crazy world.
This picture may helps
"I've got a tight grip on reality
But I can't let go of what's in front of me here
I know your leaving in the morning, when you wake up
Leave me with some kind of proof it's not a dream"

Same experience here. I saw a drop for a $100 top and asked why the hell would anyone buy that?
