My thoughts about the price: this knife has Japanese super-steel and Japanese G-10 scales; we know both materials are very expensive to manufacture and finish - just look at similarly outfitted Japanese made knives, and you'll see they are all in the same price brackets, or even more expensive (I did the research; there are several web sites specializing in Japanese cutlery and the prices are astounding, even for simple folders). The good news is that usually, the Japanese made Spyderco knives have outstanding fit and finish, and I think we should expect a great finished product.
I can only speculate that the "spider web" pattern further adds manufacturing costs? For sure this blade is more expensive to make than, say, a satin or brushed finish.
So in my mind, I know that the price is high (would have danced in the street if this was $120 to $150), but I am fairly certain (hoping?) it's not because of Massdrop and/or Spyderco are trying to gouge their fan base (because, let's be realistic, this is a knife that will almost entirely be sold to collectors and Spyderco fans). Sal Glesser from Spyderco certainly has a great relationship with the fan base, I can't imagine this being a ploy to sell overpriced knives.
Also, the fact that the Yen has seen so much devaluation in the past few years, means they (the Japanese factories) have to fork more money for their raw materials, for shipping, etc., and this ends up sending the prices of finished goods soaring (especially goods with a high level of raw materials costs).
Lastly, any way you look at this, the knife is going to become a super sought after collector's item with huge resale value (I think up to - perhaps? - twice the initial price within a few years). In fact, if I had the money, I would buy two, one to resell later and fund a grail, but I can't currently justify it (cough, cough significant other cough cough). So you're never going to "lose money" on this knife! You will, in my opinion, always be able to recoup your $200.
Otherwise don't buy it, no one forces anyone to buy this! Vote with your wallet! 😳

BobrazI'm going to have to respectfully disagree with you here. I'm sure the second hand collectors market will see some sort of appreciation on price for these, but I highly doubt that we'll see these double in price.
I say that because it seems to me that the initial price is already a bit inflated. The delica, while admittedly a fantastic knife and very popular model, doesnt command the same sort of premiums on eBay that something like the PM2 sprint runs can get.
I say that as a guy who does this sort of thing. I recently bought one of the KW CF/M4 PM2 sprint runs and currently have it stashed away unused as my rainy day fund.
Its got a lot of "cool" factor going for it, I'll give it that. But in my eyes it's far too much of a risk for the up front investment. I could very well be wrong. Time will tell.

Stickman393Agreed, maybe not 2X your initial price. Agreed there, I may have been a bit too enthusiastic (LOL)!
But recouping the initial $200 will be - easily? - feasible I guess? One can certainly hope!
BTW great buy, that KW CF/M4 PM2; been drooling over it for a long time...

BobrazJonas Heineman, the Massdrop guy has said that 600 will be made if this drop reaches 250 sales. So there will be 350 of these knives in Massdrop's possesion to be sold in future drops.. The price won't go up till those are sold, presuming everyone in the Spyderco community knows this.

Bobraz You are trying so hard to justify the price haha. Just buy it if you want.
The ZDP FRN version goes for $95. You are basically paying double the price for Spyderco to slab on a plain old black G10 scale (G10 being made in Japan makes zero difference) on it with a tacky looking blade pattern. The normal Delicas are made in Japan and they do not have an excellent fit and finish. I've handled over 10 new Delicas and they were not even close to perfect. So who knows what this will be like.

BobrazNot sure what they mean by "Japanese G10". The pattern is maybe(?) laser etched onto the blade after the coating is applied like how they put their logo and information on whatever steel they're using. I don't think a coating is that expensive as CRKT has black coated blades on 30 dollars knives.

BobrazIt's Japanese made G10; manufacturing of true G10 scales is a fairly expensive process as it is (no etching or cheap coating involved - Google it, it's interesting!), so G10 scales, made in Japan in smaller quantities, is an even more expensive proposition...
