Part of Spyderco’s value line of folders, the Efficient is just like it sounds. It has a drop-point blade (with a plain or partially serrated edge) that can saw, pierce, and slice with ease Read More
I have bought quite a few Spyderco knives over the years, mostly made in Taichung and a few from Golden. This knife has a super detent and one of the nicest actions I have seen on a Spyderco. As this was a very inexpensive knife no lightweight materials were used. Weight is a bit of a problem. Excellent value with the Efficient.
This isn't my first Spyderco and won't be my last. The knives feel great in the hand and do exactly what they need to. My one gripe on this knife is that it isn't drilled to allow the pocket clip to be mounted in any of the 4 possible spots (top and bottom of each side) like my other one is. Not a huge deal, but it throws me off a bit.
This isn't the greatest example of a Spyderco, but that is to be expected when it costs far less than the mid to high end options, but as a backup option, it will do it's job and I expect it will hold the edge pretty well.
This knife is about 50% larger than I expected it to be. It looks nice and sleek in the photos, but feels clunky, slow, and bulky in my hands. The handle edges are too sharp and the blade doesn't slide out well. I agree with the other review about the hole access - it is too far down to be comfortable. Even right handed my thumb hits the corner of the handle when I am opening it. This is one of two knives I have bought from Massdrop and the only Spiderco so far that I regret buying.
I like this knife as an entry-level option into Spyderco. I like the blacked out look and the way it looks in the hand or clipped to pocket.
But, if there's one thing that really frosts my nethers, it's that opening the blade left handed does not give the same access to the thumb hole. Why would they do this? It's not a giant difference, but it's the first time I've seen this from Spyderco.
