I received my knife and I love everything about it, except for the unpleasant surprise that it's made in China! I know, it shouldn't have been a surprise. "Buyer beware." I didn't read these comments and only now do I see that many Drop customers identified the country of origin HERE . . . But I did read the details on the product page, and Drop DIDN'T identify the country of origin on the product page. Spyderco built a reputation for making quality, ergonomic knives in COLORADO for reasonable prices. That's the reputation that they built in my mind and doubtlessly in the minds of many other buyers. So when I saw this drop, that's what I assumed I was getting. This is the way I found out that Spyderco now hires some unnamed Chinese company to make knives with their brand on them. Now, for my forty-eight bucks, I have something I don't want and can't return, and a negative impression of both Drop and Spyderco. Buyer beware, indeed.

I'm new to drop, after hearing lots of hype from good deals. I haven't seen any yet, and from what I've been reading, it seems the era of "good deals" is over.

KizerSpyderco, among other companies, mandates the retail price of their knives. This means that unless it is discontinued, no Spyderco will ever really be available at a discount. Usually massdrop throws in something extra as a result of this but not always. Just be aware. Kizers and Bestechs can sometimes be had for as much as $100 dollars less than can be found elsewhere. That said, massdrop is clearly transitioning roles. The deals are still there, but they are now more like a retailer with special access than a group buy site.

KizerThe in-house collaborations are still pretty decent, but I agree, not many deals to be had on EDC knives. I've been mostly sticking to kitchen knives, pens, valet trays, lighters, headphones, and titanium flasks in the last year. To Drop's credit, they have really improved their customer service IMO. The last few interactions I've had with them were great.

Agreed not much of a deal same as knife center and similar priced on other sites as well. Get it for me 10 or 15 less might buy, certainly not worth 50 for Chinese made even if it's Spyderco.

I was interested when I saw the design, but my first reaction after reading the specs was: "ugh, 8Cr13 at $47.75." I'll just stick with my Tenacious and it's siblings or go with Kershaw with AO for less money. At this price I am tempted to go with a Chinese brand which offers SUPPOSED higher end steels and handle materials, etc. but their often blatant ripoffs keep me away.

Same issue time after time ,$50.00 plus knives from "good companies" 8 cr's steel . Now we know Spyderco deals with many premium steels s30v & Vg10 are two that come to mind , these aren't top dollar steels anymore ,and they have the machinery to work with them , will it really break them to offer a knife like this style (decent handles too not plastic) at the $40 to $50 range, if I am reading comments right they lost at least 4 poss. sales. Speaking for myself they definitely lost me I would love one of these ,but not this steel not this price ,and it isint impossible Gerber of all companies offers one in s30v under $40 and made in the USA https://www.bladehq.com/item--Gerber-E-Z-Out-DPSF-Lockback-Knife--27051 (crappy handle , but still)

Ah, another reason not to buy it. The same reason I will not pick up a Spyderco Military.

$47 for 8cr13mov? Yikes! If you want 8cr go to the Kershaw drop of $20 for 2 knives, that's more realistic. For the same price point you can get a lapg tbfk knife in S35VN and on bearings. Spyderco's higher map pricing these days just doesn't make sense on a large number of their knives. It's been really frustrating since they made that change. As a result, I've sold all my spyderco's but one.

How is this efficient? If I want an 8Cr13 blade, I can get a Kershaw, with AO, for about half of this. (I have a lot, in fact.) And what about the mongrel blade? These partially serrated blades leave me totally cold. One day, I plan to pick up a Sypdie in H1 or LC200N that is fully serrated. This is an easy one for me to pass on. $50 is way too much for 8Cr, even if Spyderco makes it.

I have the standard version of this knife. I don't hate it, but it has a couple problems that ruin it for me. It is just too thick for one. The liners and scale could be thinned out a bit and it would cut some weight and make it carry much better in the pocket. Also, the bump that sticks out at the back of the pointer finger gripping area rubs your thumb every time I open it. Not the end of the world, but very annoying and blister causing if you are a fidgetter like me. Finally, as others have mentioned, the steel is very low end. With that steel, the price should be in the $30s probably. It does take a nice polish though if you are into that.
