I have this one and i'm currently in the drop for the slysz bowie which is a logical comparsion for any potential buyer. I would say this is a large knife--it is probably too large to actually consider using as an edc knife for the average person (this means actally using the knife for chores on a daily basis where other people will see the knife as you use it). If you want to just carry it and not bring it out--this is quite doable and it is what I end up doing with this thing. The slysz bowie or the spyderco techno are probably the better ideal size for an edc knife in my opinion. The handle scales on this knife are completely flat--there is no 3D conturing of the titanium, and in terms of handle comfort, I agree with online reviewers who state that there are some hot spots when using this knife, although nothing too bad that would make me reconsider this knife. I think the 3D machining of the handles of the Slyz bowie is what accounts for the price difference -- and why a smaller knife could cost more when the designs are so similar. The blade steel on this knife is CPM 10V which is a rarer "super steel." I think the edge holding ability of this knife is just as high if not higher than the CTS XHP on the slyz. But it is more wear resistant and thus harder to sharpen. Practically speaking, if you are not into knives and do not have examples of CTS XHP, s30v, S90v, S110v, d2, zdp 186, Elmax and M4 to compare these steels with, then there will be no practical or perceptable difference between "super steels". They will all be harder to sharpen, the edge will not deform or roll under use, and they will hold an edge a lot longer than comparable blade shapes that can be purchased at walmart. Bottom line is I think this is a knife that appeals to knife collectors who want an example of one of the the largest frame lock folders on the market, and it appeals to people who are into exotic high end steels to test and compare against other high end steels.
I'm glad you mentioned the steel. What is the difference, performance or otherwise, between CPM 10V and CPM S30V?
CPM 10V has a higher wear resistance and toughness than S30V--much higher according to what I have read, but how this translates into actual use is questionable. I think it will be harder to sharpen and hold an edge longer, but I haven't used the blade hard enough to say what the difference is.
