I can have this knife in less than a day, for about $20 less, from a major US online retailer. Probably your first guess as to who. If MAP means Massdrop can't offer this knife at a better value, then how about giving us access to the Maxamet PM3, or better yet PM2 instead? It's already in production, these aren't sprint run knives, they're supposed to be available, but they're impossible to find. You'll be able to offer it at a price acceptable to you; we'll be able to get a knife we want and are having a hard time finding at retail. Pretty sure that's a lot closer to the stated business model for this place than trying to pitch stock knives at a markup that will take considerably longer to deliver. Two cents! :)

reswrightWhere are you getting that price? I've been waiting to grab a Sprint run or exclusive, but for the regular Para 3 camo every site I've seen lists it at ±$4 from this price.

GoCityIt was Amazon using the coupon they offer you right next to their price, for next day delivery. I think that's how they get around certain price restrictions. Looking at it now, the difference is more $10, but I think it was a better deal in the AM when I looked.

Ummmm.... this is more expensive than Spyderco's MAP (minimum advertised pricing). So if you want to pay more and wait longer, this is your deal. Otherwise just go to any knife store and buy it for less with free shipping.

Why would you want a case for your POCKET knife? Lol

The Para 3 is one of my favorite EDC's due to its size/weight combination. Unless I am hunting or camping I prefer to carry a smaller knife, lightweight knife and the Para 3 is perfect for that and I find myself carrying it more than I do my small Sebenza's. I know there are quite a few comments on the pricing Massdrop has listed, but as always, you need to be a good steward with your money and shop around. I have the regular S30V Satin/Black G10 version and IIRC, I picked up on sale at Amazon for right around $100. I thought about getting the S110 version but this is my EDC and I have never had any issues with the S30V on any of my Spiderco knives. I've never cared for the black/coated knives because I hate the way they look when the coating gets scratched. That and I think they look a little too Mall Ninja for me. Anyhow, like I said, the Para 3 is a good EDC in my opinion.

So I receive a 50% discount on spyderco's website and the blue G10 with 110 steel is the exact same price if you decline the pouch and get a $15 discount. What I'm saying is this is 50% msrp.

Spyderco's CPM S110V blade steel is awesome. I have a Native 5 with the steel and after polishing the edge it is insanely sharp. It also holds an edge very well.

Not partisan to fanboys or trolls, dont have a para3 myself, from anywhere, still undecided on adding to the fam. Just an observation, but for people for whom this is not a good deal, I appreciate that for your purposes the economics simply do not justify pulling the trigger, even w/o case. It def does make sense for some people. The financial aspect is only one variable in a persons decisions.
However, being mad (& expressing those feelings here in no uncertain terms) about it accomplishes literally nothing, to effect change whatsoever. Only voting with your dollar does. On the flip side, people sometimes being frustrated at or dissatisfied with a situation that seems avoidable doesn't make them automatically whiners or trolls, just human.
That said, given the MAP thing is a fixed point here at MD, perhaps one way around would be custom combinations & packages not avail at BladeHQ or Zon, etc. For me, if there was a dlc blade in either s35vn or s110, I would be down, even if I had to wait or it wasn't the absolutely best deal I could find anywhere or it wasn't my favorite grip color.
I wouldn't wait for dlc in s30v, altho I don't mind the combination, bc in my mind the MAP sitch spoils the value proposition for that quality of blade steel (which is good to very good, even in Spyderco's ht), whatever your feelings on s30v in general or Spyderco's s30v in particular. sorry for the ramble
JerrikkoI was with you, until you said expressing anger does nothing. Publicly complaining about prices is a tactic on the rise with internet shopping. It’s a threat to Massdrop (or any other store with a public forum) that not only are they voting with their dollars, they are also going to create a toxic spectacle to convince others not to buy from a particular store. It’s negative advertising, an idea that worms its way into your mind and makes you want to shop around after the first time you see an interesting product. It is kind of like the haggling business model that arose out of WWII shortages and other cultures where demand outstrips supply. That said, such public displays of dissuasion were destined to happen on Massdrop, due to MD’s own nature of trying to use group/mass buying to undercut the prices of other business models. That business plan attracts a certain kind of mentality and customer, and they will let you know every time Massdrop is more average and isn’t the best deal. It is true that these drops make sense for some and not others, that opting out of the case is an unusual option that most people miss (but I think Spyderco caught on and told Massdrop they couldn’t do that anymore). MAP keeps prices high, but it protects the small stores that work passionately to stay in business. I do think Massdrop presents other kinds of value most people don’t realize: custom collaborations, and product discovery. I came for the AKG (and later Sennheiser) exclusives, but I stayed because of stuff I never heard of before like Slidebelts and several of the knives I never was exposed to before. I may even pick up an electric skateboard or board game some day.
