Product Description
Compact design meets hard-duty components in Spyderco’s Techno folder. Designed by Marcin Slysz, the knife forgoes frills and flourishes in exchange for an industrial, utilitarian feel: Short but extra thick, the drop-point blade is made of CTS-XHP steel and features a full flat grind for ease of slicing Read More

this is a fantastic deal considering the recent MAP increase. decline the case and you're far lower than any competitor. fucking excellent job massdrop!! if I see someone bitch about this one, I swear to god....

aman1420I'd be more excited if the Techno 2 hadn't just gotten announced personally, but if you like the original better then sure, pretty good deal. I'm going to wait for the updated version myself.

LamarYeah, I saw the announcement recently before picking one up. Don't like the standoffs, blade finish isn't as nice, and thinner stock = not for me. The grind and swedges are nice, and the thinner stock means it'll actually cut better, but I like how tanky this one is and I like the reflective finish.

Right hand "thumb" opening access only. Be aware that the thumb must utilize the "Spiderhole" opening with the right thumb/right hand (not the left) due to the placement of the cutout in the titanium. It's a very nice small knife, a beefy small tank and the thickness of the blade allows for prying without worry about the blade, the two titanium scales are thick. I don't carry it too often. I didn't like the default blue back spacer and changed mine to orange kirinite

S30V or CTS-XHP steel?

behr95The S30V was a very limited run during a shortage. XHP is what they're using. Not much of a difference anyway.
aman1420One can sharpen XHP on ceramic but not really so with s30v. s30v has a tad better abrasion resistance imo but I prefer XHP.

I have this knife and love it. Now with the Spyderco price increase this is a pretty good deal if you reject the complementary case. This price is nearly $20 less than the MAP price for this, and as far as I know this knife is not being discontinued. Could that mean that Massdrop can now get prices lower than the MAP price (even before the complimentary case discount)? I hope so
OnionmanIt is impossible to get one this cheap now with Spyderco's new MAP price. I am getting one extra.

OnionmanWhile not discontinued, Spyderco will come out with a refresh on the Techno later this year. The 2018 version should be a little thinner than this original version.

I feel like for $197 there's a lot of other options out there when it comes to small beefy knife like this. First off, Spyderco Para 3 cost $119, S110V Para 3 is only $150. You can also get ZT0900 for $170+ with S35VN steel. Spyderco Sage 5 cost $138 and Sage 2 with full Ti handle cost $186. These are just some examples that might provide better value for your $, some research will go a long way.

IMO this is one of the best carry knives on the market. great steel, thick sharp blade, and compact yet robust.
