Wow!!!! In just over 6 hours we've sold out the entire inventory of 2000 units! Thanks to your overwhelming response, we've managed to raise over $5000 for digitalundivided! We understand that some of you may be disappointed that you didn't manage to snag one of the units before we sold out, so we've immediately started accepting pre-orders for the next batch of The Key. Our manufacturing team is trying to expedite everything, and we plan to have another delivery of 3000 units in early December. Thanks again for your support.
edit/add: Okay, we're sold out.. again!! we've increased our 3k order to 5k units. After those, the next batch will likely ship later than the early Dec ship date.
edit/add Oct 7: we increased the limit again, and we're sold out again. We're talking to our manufacturers to get firm timelines on what future delivery times would look like, hopefully have this up and available for sale again later today.
edit/add Oct 7: we've got 800 left that we can sell for the early Dec delivery. After those are gone, the next batch will probably be with a February ship date.

Not hot-swappable? Even the XD002 has hot-swap sockets and RGB underglow (tho it's flawed in its own way).

I would suggest 12, low profile mill max are easy to mess up up people aren't comfortable with soldering. But I doubt Drop is willing to shell out an extra $1-2

SmolBrotatoIMHO people screw up the mill max because they use the wrong equipment. 0.4mm solder with a 0.2 mm tip and its straightforward. Use a small strip of kapton tape to keep them in position (flush to the pcb) while soldering.

Yes, it’s the bdn9 rev 2. The rev 1 pcb is back in stock, and I think that one can be made wireless if you can get your hands on a nice!nano.

Sure but the encoders still act like buttons too so you always have 9 “keys”.

Hey everyone, we're so excited to announce our latest collaboration with Stack Overflow to bring to you: The Key. Here's a quick rundown of the media behind this product if you feel like reliving April 1, 2021.
1) Stack Overflow announced the fake release of the product, the date was cleverly set to March 31st, 2021 to throw readers off the scent!
2) Cassidoo produced this brief video posted to Stack Overflow's twitter account garnering over 500k views.
3) With tons of interest, Stack Overflow followed up by posting this blog post with a deep dive on typical copy/paste behavior that occurs on their site.
Behind the scenes we helped provide initial prototypes of The Key and have since designed and manufactured the PCB to get this from gag prototype to a fully operational product. We hope that you enjoy this piece of creative silliness and consider grabbing one before they're all gone. Sales begin on Sep 28th at 10am PT.
edit/add: we only have 2000 of these in stock. Chances are we will be sold out very soon.

So how do the macro layers work? Does activating a higher layer turn every single key in your keyboard (including the remaining keys on 'The Key') into an entirely different button layout?

RajMysterit should! (CTRL acts just like a USB hub, so any USB device should work, assuming it doesn't have huge power draw).

How many of these would I need to get to replace a whole keyboard? At least twenty, but thirty would be better. I hope they're not much over $10 burt they'll probably be closer to $20-30.
