Finally--received notice mine has shipped (11/29/2018)! Will update comments when it arrives... Okay, UPDATE time: You won't believe this (on the other hand...) when I finally received mine, after one failed drop, and then waiting for the second to ship, MD sent me the wrong one!!! So, was I pissed? Initially, yes but here's what happened...the Oval Cocotte in the photo includes a glass lid (something I wanted), the Oval Cocotte MD shipped is the same model with the regular (matching enameled) cast iron lid. I did some quick checking online and realized the pot MD sent sells for about a hundred bucks more than the version with the glass lid--so, considering there's nothing wrong with the wrong one they sent, I just decided to keep it. It's a great dutch oven and I (and everyone else, I assume), got a very good deal on it. So, "all's well that ends well"--as they say.

That lid is a deal breaker.

CEH1Nah, it's a feature! You can take it up to 450 degrees with the metal knob (the cast iron is good till the cows come home). Seriously, Staub uses very thick, heavy glass--I've had no issues with the lid on my 3.5-qt Braiser, at all. Oval Dutch ovens with the cast iron lids have their place--I have a white one (Staub too) but they're no fun for stove top-to-oven dishes--you can't watch the food cook! Look, the Cocotte is indestructible, but even if you ran over the lid with a dump truck, it probably wouldn't break--but if it did, it's replaceable! Come on--"What have you got to lose?"

Okay, last time this drop rolled around, we came up one person shy of the purchasers needed to make it happen! I sure hope that person wasn't you (yes, you know who you are, and we can't believe you let the rest of your Cooking Community comrades down like you did--you broke our little hearts), but today is a new day, today is the day all can be forgiven, today is your Redemption Day! Look, If you're reading about this drop, you already know how incredibly versatile these things are, and how bloody damned expensive they are at places like Sur La Table and Williams Sonoma. You know you've been lusting after one for a long while now--and you also know the holidays are right around the corner! So my little Cooking Community Coquets, let's not drop the ball here again! MD's price on this little gem is a great deal, and these dutch ovens make really great meals. And I'm speaking to you with some experience on the subject--why just last night I used my Staub 3.5-qt Braiser with Glass Lid, to whip whip up a batch of "Braised Chicken Thighs with Carrots, Shallots and White Wine." I don't mind telling you they came out pretty damn good--my girlfriend/worst nightmare ate three all by herself!

I'm so tempted to purchase this but I'm scared if the shipping company would not handle the product carefully upon delivering it to my doorstep (I live in Malaysia). Sigh.

anilina89Well I can tell you that I've purchased both Staub and Le Crusette through the mail and while both do an excellent job of packaging, Staub really goes all out with their's (very heavy cardboard, lids packaged separately, no room for anything to shift around). I'd say give it a try--unless they drop it out of an airplane you'll be good!

Curses--just ordered a Le Creuset yesterday!!!
Should have gone for this one (and still might). The price for this same piece is $270 on Amazon vs $160 on MD. Seems to me saving $110 on arguably the best enamel Dutch oven out there, more than justifies the 10/1 ship date!
Good show MD!
