Just an update. The light eventually arrived but unfortunately the packers didn't choose the correct size box and my couriers ended up charging me $125 to ship this light to South Africa. Amazon shipped the Edge for only $16. The packing probably doesn't matter to most Americans but it ended up costing me quite a bit but my wife loves it!

For future drops; I contacted Stella about the same lights on sale at Costco and online from China. They assured me that whilst they may look similar or even exactly the same, the internals will be very different which explains the pricing difference.
Anyway, along with this drop I also bought the Edge version on Amazon and it arrived here in South Africa yesterday.
Wow! This is a serious light. I love the bendable arm and the ability to change tint and brightness. I'm looking forward to the Massdrop one arriving as this is for my wife's 50th birthday and she's heavy into scrap-booking.
Overall I'm very happy.

I didn't believe it, but I went to Costco and checked. It's a different brand name, but priced at $39.99 Canadian. It's the same shape, has the same controls, same LED's, same light temperatures. It looks like one of these situations where a factory makes the same product, then sells it under multiple names.
Since shipping to Canada is $36.80 US (about $40 Cdn), I figure I have nothing to lose by trying the Costco version. At least at Costco it's easy to return if I'm dissatisfied.
PS: I tried to include a picture of the lamp and price tag, but couldn't get it to upload. I'll try again if anyone needs visual evidence.

The Stella Task lamp is made in Coburg Oregon, and yes it is a great lamp, and quite expensive.

"Cool, the closest you’ll come to indoor moonlight that’s easy on the eyes for late night projects. "
They actually have that backwards. Warm light is what is easy on the eyes for nighttime. Cool is actually used to help wake people up.
"For example, a warmer (i.e., lower color temperature) light is often used in public areas to promote relaxation, while a cooler (higher color temperature) light is used to enhance concentration in offices."
