It's a pretty handy device if you ever need it. Plug it into the cigarette lighter port and if a idiot runs you off the road and into a lake you can cut your seatbelts and break the window and escape... if your care and yourself find it in a lake you have less then 2 minutes to escape or the water pressure will keep the doors shut... Also if you get into a wreck and your car is on fire you can cut your seat belts and break your window to escape. As to if you claim you have a knife and what not in the console.. it doesn't help If your car is smashed and you can't access it. It's a great tool to use in a life or death situation where time matters. *UPDATE WEEK 35* Still a really great tool to have. Unit is still working just fine I have my dash cam and phone charger hooked up to it. I'm using a wireless charging pad in my truck lol

Hng66Depends on your car, my 1998 dodge ram 4x4 it would provide power with out the key but on my 2011 GMC Sierra 2500HD it will not itll turn off 5min after taking out the key. Just depends on your car, grab a cellphone charger and hook one in and found out for yourself. It's just a cigarette lighter plug.
