A must-have, but you might end up buying more than you'll ever need
I love buying Tai Hao caps as they are nice and affordable. Really great for budget Alps build. The colourways are somewhat limited and the legends gets boring pretty quickly after a few builds but Tao-Hao, AFAIK, is the only 'modern' Alps caps option on the market right now; the other one being Signature Plastic's DSA Alps which is a whole different beast. There are some times when you need two 2.25u shifts and the set comes with only one.. that's a bummer because now you'll have to buy two sets! Two sets per colour way..
I bought these for a build that I was doing for my younger brother and he loves them. Really nice feel when typing and they look great, awesome color pallet.
It’s sometimes tough to find a nice alps set without spending a bit more than you want, and forget finding complete kits with the variations on sizes.
this set is a perfect example of that. I was restoring an old Dell board and immediately identified that my stepped caps lock wasn’t going to work. In this scenario, I’m prepared to pay a bit more to get the additional cap, but Tai Hao has never been overly receptive to one-off caps. My board is great, but I’m sitting on a legacy caps lock that kind of stands out.
for the price, it is great, just keep in mind that tai-hao accommodates standard boards. If you’re pushing beyond that with your builds, look elsewhere.
I'm overall quite happy with these. I put them on a Levinson (split ortholinear 40%) keyboard I built awhile back. I originally had some Apple Extended Keyboard keycaps on them.
They feel solid to type on, and are overall well-built. There were a couple of bonus caps in there that I was hoping to use on this keyboard but they were MX-style keycaps so they did me no good.
These are nice, basic keycaps, and it's nice to find a good set of keycaps for a keyboard with ALPS switches that isn't just a bunch of blanks.
I love the texture, weight, and seeming "chunkiness" of them. I went with Tomcat and fitted them onto my KBP V80 w/ White Fukka switches. Removing ALPS keycaps can be a chore, so take care to not torque or over-stress any of the switches when removing them.
