Japanese Inks With a Sense of Place
Crafted using traditional Japanese dye-making techniques, these Kyo-Iro inks are inspired by places of cultural and historical significance around Kyoto—once the nation’s capital city. Water based and presented in 40-milliliter glass bottles, they offer excellent flow and are resistant to feathering and bleed-through.

At checkout, you’ll have your choice of colors: Cherry Blossom of Keage (fuschia/pink), Flaming Red of Fushimi (red), Moonlight of Higashiyama (amber/dark orange), Soft Snow of Ohara (deep blue), or Stone Road of Gion (green). The fuschia/pink ink celebrates Keage’s breathtaking spring landscape, dotted with somei yoshino cherry blossoms in full bloom. The red ink transports us to Fushimi-Inari: the head shrine of Inari, the god of harvest, prosperity, safety, and the fulfillment of dreams. The amber/dark orange ink is an ode to Higashiyama—a historic district full of Kyoto-style machiya houses—while the deep blue recalls a snowy day in Ohara, where you can find a statue of the Amitabha (or Buddha of Infinite Light) in the center of a cedar grove. Gion, the inspiration for the green ink, is known for its stone roads, river, and maiko-san.
