Creative's similarly-priced Sound Blaster X7 is similar to this TEAC unit - but has a more-powerful (and higher-quality) headphone amp, smaller footprint, optical out, multi-channel analog outs, a microphone, and gaming features. In addition, it's numerous inputs/outputs/settings are fully-configurable using an app. The Limited Edition (white) X7 ups the specs with lower-impedance headphone jacks and a more-powerful AC-DC adapter for more power output to the speaker amps.
Though, the X7 lacks the TEAC's DSD/32-bit compatibility, coaxial digital input, and ease-of-use without a computer/tablet/smartphone.
I see that Emotiva will be releasing an impressive-looking stereo pre-amp/DAC/tuner/amplifier... called the TA-100 for $399. Though, Bluetooth capability requires a separately-sold dongle.
Finally... If more power, video switching, and surround-sound capability is desired, I recommend the NR-series 'slim' A/V receivers from Marantz.
