Hi! Been reading the comments here, and maybe I can offer a perspective. In general, TEAC products tend to be exceptionally designed and executed. The HA-P5 looks to be well thought out...mostly. I own an ifi Micro iDSD Black Label, which is comparable in many ways. My iDSD BL is pretty much a Swiss Army knife with a LOT of fiddly little buttons. The TEAC has many fewer switches...a positive in my opinion. Both DAC/amps have the same odd recessed male usb DAC connection. Not that big of a problem as one can find a nice usb extension for a reasonable price. Another similarity is the use of Burr-Brown DAC chips. Some people are describing the sound as "warm/dark". I kind of like the slight "warm" coloration as opposed to a "clinical" DAC like a Sabre, but the B-B is not "dark". Mine is quite transparent, and reviewers at head-fi have said the same. I'm guessing the two DAC/amps have different chips, but the Burr-Brown family is known for a bit of "warmth". The HA-P5 is a portable. My iDSD BL is "totable" at best.
Admittedly, I found my iDSD BL for a price very close to this drop, which was an unusually good deal, but I think the HA-P5 might be a nice choice at this price point. I would probably consider this drop, if didn't already own the iDSD BL.
