A lot of Aps don't like direct drive or pre amps in the table, because it can cause more noise, but yes, there are better. This is probably good for the price. DJs need dd. for obvious reasons.
Ummmm, most audiophiles shun direct drive turntables under the premise that they can introduce noise and vibration. A belt adds another layer of sound isolation. I'd personally rather have a cheap belt drive table than a cheap direct drive. When you start to get in the $1k+ price range, both styles can be excellent.
You're correct that it is far from an audiophile (or even mid-fi) TT & system.
However, you are incorrect that the reason for this is that it is a belt drive turntable. In fact most modern audiophile turntables are belt drive--see VPI, Project, Rega and most other lines.
