Does this allow for selection between headphone output and output through XLR or RCA? Or do both play continuously all the time?
With any DAC you can ONLY set one connection at a time to play any audio input/output.
I haven't seen any Headphones using XLR but if they do exist buy it immediately, due to the extra long distances available for you to hear balanced undistorted sound ; )
Your comments completely discredit you from being any type of an expert, and you failed to answer my question completely.
Because sunshine I don't own this Teac Model, no one has it where I live. Hence all you will get is a guess from a typical DAC owner. Because this only sells in America better hope someone bothers to answer your desperate plea here.
Head phones are redundant anyway if you have better class Speakers instead ; )
They don't make them anymore but if you can find a AKG K1000. I have a pair...
You lucky person, you do know how truly RARE they are?
Never ever lose that pair because it is simply the very highest quality headphones available with that type of connection. About as scarce as a Unicorn ; )
it will play from both headphone amp and RCA/XLR line outs at the same time
Almost any headphone with dual entry cable can be modified to use XLR (and some single entry). Most replaceable cable models with dual entry have aftermarket or first party balanced cables available. This really isn't as rare as you are making it out to be. Also the reason the previous poster said your comment discredits you as a source is the fact the XLR outputs on this particular model are set to line level and are not variable. Plugging balanced XLR terminated headphones into this thing wouldn't be a very bright idea.
Would you believe I bought them from the original owner for $350? He modified the original cable, but the headphones aren't.
RCA AND XLR outputs don't work in the same time, you need to chose which one you will use through menu, really simple and fast. Headphone amp on this unit is not to good and if you want to use now very popular AKG K7xx, that is not good combination .
