I joined the Massdrop Liquid Carbon with SDAC last night. I plan to go balanced eventually with my HE560. Will this work well? Since it is a 4year old design, I wonder how it compares to the newer DACs on the market especially the ones with newer chips from Sabre and the likes? I only have the schiit Modi Uber and the O2+ODAC right now along with my Bottlehead Crack/Speedball and HD6XX / Fidelity’s X2/ Beyer 880 (600 ohm) to compare. Thanks
32/384, DSD 2.8/5.6, balanced and SE outs, doesn't seem to out of date especially for the price now does it?
how about sound quality compared to the newer dacs?
Unless you're planning on using DSD 256/512, I don't see why the sound quality would be any worse than current gear. The unit has a pair of fairly good Ti DAC ( http://www.ti.com/product/PCM1795 ), TEAC generally has a good reputation when it comes to build quality, and all of the reviews on this unit that I found had nothing but good things to say.
This unit is practically a steal at this price, even if it is 1-2 generations old.
Thanks. I decided to join the drop last night and I plan to use it with my Massdrop liquid carbon amp and Hifiman He560 balanced on the XLR side. I will hook up my Bottlehead Crack/speedball on the RCA output and listen on my HD6XX SE . I know I have to switch them since it does not output at the same time on XLR and RCA. I probably will give my Schiit Vali 1 and Schiit Modi Uber to my son. I will keep my O2/oDAC for traveling. 👍👍
That is not too far off from my plan. I joined the drop for this TEAC as well as the drops for the Topping DX7s and LCX/SDAC.
Going to use the TEAC and Topping as dedicated DACs and route them (fully balanced) through my Behringer X Air XR18 so I don't have to play the cable swap game. Planning on doing a balanced connection to the LCX (when it arrives) as a dedicated amp; my Little Dot 1+ (unbalanced) and LSR-30x (balanced) are already hanging off of the mixer.
Between the He-4xx, HD58x, and T50RPmk3, I expect I will be happy with this DAC. Hopefully you dig yours when it arrives also. ^^
