I have a TEAC Ud-h01... Is this even an upgrade from that.? It seems the DAC chip is even the same.
H01 is similar to the 301 minus the DSD support. Nice and compact, though it lacks the SNR and extra power supply of the 501. If you run your dac to an amp that can take advantage of more dynamic range than 105dB this is a good option especially considering the price. You can probably sell the H01 if you need to as well.
However, if you use the H01 as a headphone amp this won't make any difference. Even the UD-503 which actually has more power on the headphone out doesn't put out much, even when using an adapter to do it balanced.
Thanks for your quick and informative reply :) I do indeed only use it with my recently bought Sennheiser 6XX atm. I had a pair of M-Audio BX-5a studio monitors that I have sold and plan to upgrade to Focal Alpha monitors at some point in the future, so it seems like this wouldn't be worth it for me at all.
